Natural Dizasterz is the music itself, the brain-child of Eric Johnson, an independent rap music producer specializing in creating lush breaks (steeped in the rap sounds of '88-'93) and using minimal and somewhat archaic, recording techniques to do so.
In late 1999, he began to fully turn his head toward his love and understanding of rap music. Over the next two years he began recording stripped down beats in basements on a cassette 4-track machine, using loops that he made from âpause tapesâ, using a scratch technique created via the rewind button on his 1988 boombox, and embracing any accident that made its way onto tape. The results of these sessions were released on the very limited 2001 release, "Shit-Hop".
Following its release, Natural Dizasterz mildly upgraded his equipment (now consisting of a Roland 505, a set of two American Audio CDJ's, and a Tascam 808 digital 8-track recorder...he has never upgraded again since), and began working on beats for an album with i.D. The album also featured guest appearances from emcees Emc, Adru Tha Misphit, Johnny Quest, Approach, and R&B crooner Drowsy Green. The album was to be released under the moniker, "Natural Dizasterz & i.D. are Lost Cats" in early 2006, but the album has never been released. It was years before he was able to ever listen to the record again. Now, almost six years later, he has decided to release his catalog to the public, starting with the instrumental versions of the Lost Cats LP. Releasing the actual Lost Cats LP (with vocals included) is currently in the works, and will prove to be just as potent some six years down the line (perhaps even more potent considering its unique prologue).
