The idea behind our music is that we start with Appalachian bluegrass roots and build out from there, adding some southern rock, delta blues, country while adding a dark twist born out of the Midwestern blue collar sentiment.

With influences ranging from John Hartford and The Flying Burrito Brothers to Tom Petty to Luna, The Mid-State Wire mixes Appalachian and Midwest styles into heartfelt, straight-forward songs. Placing focus on the ensemble over the individual, the band creates a full-spectrum sound of mandolin, organ, piano, lap steel, harmonica, guitar, drums and bass. Hailing from Columbus, OH and formed in July 2005, The Mid-State Wire consists of six working professionals, but their sound is decidedly blue-collar. When seen on stage, the bandâs diverse backgrounds and styles find common ground in a determined work-ethic and honest musicianship that invites you in and welcomes you to stay.
