Theresa Melrose Odom-Surgick was born and raised in Albany, New York in a Christian home with her loving parents, Benjamin Odom and Delila Jacobs Odom and began singing the gospel of Christ at a young age in the family singing group.

Her career as a Minister of Music began in 1973, when her mother retired as Music Director at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. She then began to direct the choir and her leadership span was from 1973-1981 at Mount Olive. From 1979 to 1985, she was assistant to the Director of the Capital District Community Choir; Prof. Rudolph Stinney (now deceased). From 1981 to 1988, she was the Minister of Music at the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Albany and was then called to the Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church and served as Minister of Music form 1988-1994. In October of 1981, Theresa founded and directed the Odell Wesley Surgick Ensemble (named after her father-in-law who was a Pastor). OWS ministered from 1981-1994 and during that time, they recorded a 45-rpm record singing one of Theresaâs first compositions, âGod Is Not through with Me Yet.â A full demo album was also recorded by the group. Since that first song, she has written many songs and gives all the glory and honor to God.

One of the proudest moments in her life occurred in 1991 as one of her songs, âBlessed Is The Name,â was sung by a 1,400 voice choir at the Hampton University Ministers Conference/Choir Directors and Organist Guild in Hampton, Virginia. That same composition was introduced at the James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop of America in a music seminar, with one of Gospelâs top song writers, Carol Antrom, who wrote âHeâs Preparing Meâ and âStand Still.â

In 1993, Theresa felt the power of God flowing even more on her life and began really seeking Him through her early morning pray and praise. She knew that He had more for her to do in the ministry in addition to the music ministry and on February 20, 1994 she knew that the calling on her life into the Gospel ministry was sure as the Holy Spirit spoke to her through the Word of God. On September 17, 1995, she was licensed and ordained into the Gospel ministry by her Pastors, Donald and Rose Stuart of the New Covenant Christian Fellowship Church. It is there where she now ministers the Word of God under the guidance of her Pastors, who are a great encouragement and support to her.

With the favor of the God resting on her, Theresa, affectionately known as Minister Tee, has written many songs and is now focusing on the ministry of music He has placed on her life. She attributes the advancement of her first CD to her son, Andrae Surgick (Family Affair Music) and also to the expertise of her brother Benjamin A. Odom, who is manager, writer and background singer with the world renowned, hall of fame group, The Original Soul Stirrers of Chicago, Ill.

Theresa's hearts desire is to minister to the people of God through the Word of God in song. She looks for any opportunity to use this gift of God. Her mind is made up and she is determined to glorify God in the songs that He puts in her heart.
