An international band made up of 2 Americans, 2 Swedes, and 1 Canadian worked together to create a sound and style that is at first listen both original and filled with memorable melodies. A sort of alt-rock/folk/pop is close to an accurate description.
10 MP3 Songs in this album (43:58) !
Related styles: Rock: Folk Rock, Pop: Pop Underground, Christian
People who are interested in Elvis Costello James Taylor R.E.M. should consider this download.
Details:
Produced by Mike Roe Mike played additional guitars on "Live", "Guitars", and "LADA". He also did some bgv's.
"No Fear in Love" is a roots/pop record with infectious melodies, which may drive you mad. Songs like LADA, Guns, and No Fear in Love demonstrate Perrys' gift of writing memorable four-chord pop that you can do nothing but sing along to. Ransom and Where Can I Hide From You will move your soul. The instrumentation, provided by a band of Swedes, Americans, and a Canadian, (Perry) is acoustic based and remains fairly organic. The pennywhistles and accordion give some of the songs a Celtic flavor. If you like memorable organic pop with great harmonies, reminiscent of the BareNaked Ladies, Elvis Costello, and early R.E.M., this is the record for you!
Here's an review that appeared in Cross Rhythms Magazine in England.

It is odd that most of what we call Christian pop music is rarely heard on the radio and is rarely memorable. Sure, there are reasons why Christian music is overlooked by secular media shows, however one secular singer once told me that the problem he found with Christian music was that most of the tunes wouldn't stick in your mind after one three minute radio play...with that in mind I must send him a copy of Perry And The Poorboys album. Here we have what has to be close to the most perfect pop album in Christendom, or anywhere else for that matter. After one play you will be humming along with some of the most addictive tunes ever committed to DAT. "LADA" is an annoyingly wonderful song about worship in heaven with a hook line that even the tone deaf will be forced to sing, and Perry Springham's voice strains out the lyrics with all the passion and feeling of a man who's got just one shot at bringing some truth to those people who gotta hear it. For perfect, passionate, purifying pop, pop out and purchase Perry And The Poorboys.
Guns
I can always have some fun
Everyone's always giving me guns
Pull back the hammer I look around
Spot some careless woman on the ground
My finger points at her in shame
Another in dirt writes my name
I squeeze the trigger now I'm done
Everyone's always giving me guns
We can always have some fun
Everyone's always giving me guns
And you know he's on the run
Everyone's always giving me guns
Shy I'm not, I'd shoot you in a minute
Better not turn your back on me
I'm loaded up, I'm ready
I hold the gun up to your head
Another points back at me instead
I raise my hands up to the sky
It feels so good, I don't know why
We can always have some fun
Everyone's always giving me guns
And you know he's on the run
Everyone's always giving me guns

LADA
Oh look at me
Tears so happy fall
Laughing down our faces
Shining on us all
Shadows from the candles play
Songs from Heaven we have made
And again we hear an angel
Singing in the well...
"Ladadada ......."
The body it flies
Spirit He remains
If we cannot return
We will see you again
We will welcome the day
Leave this ship and sail away
And stand together in Heaven
Before our God and sing
"Ladadada........"
Shadows from the candles play
Songs from Heaven we have made
And again we hear an Angel
Singing in the well
"Ladadada........"

Live Like You Mean It
(Lee Valley, SD)
Get up in the morning say "God I think I'm ready to go
Anywhere you want me to
And talk to people I don't even know"
If my friends all think I'm crazy
I guess I have no friends at all
And when I tell them what Jesus said
It's like talking to a stone wall
Sitting in my history class
Can't believe what we're talking about
Some monk a long time ago
Watching gladiators screams:
"Are there none devout?"
Then he jumped into the arena
All the thumbs turned down for more
I can't help but wonder what I will be remembered for
Live like you mean it...
I often think about a friend who lives on the poor side of L.A.
And two people sleep on his porch
Because they have no other place to stay
Miss social worker thinks he's a sucker
To give them such a bed
I know Jesus is glad to have a place
To lay his head
Live like you mean it...
The big billboard says 'live up to what you expect'
And if your going to be happy
Then take all you can get
But you'll never be happy just by serving yourself
'cause when you get what you want
There is always something else

The Picture of Laura
(Catalina Island, CA)
I know I'm not the man of God I used to be
I've forgotten what it's like to live faithfully
But so many times, but so many times
I've longed for love I cannot find
I cannot find
I've not really learned to be the patient one
So reminded of all the years when I've had none
Waiting for the moment
When I know for sure
I could wait forever having never endured
I could wait forever and never be cured
I've got this photograph
Of a girl hanging on my board
The picture of Laura sitting on the beach
Who wouldn't want to be like her
Who wouldn't want to be with her
Only Laura, the picture of Laura
I'm not falling for you
Each time I fall I hurt and cry I see your face
There's nothing I've not seen before
Here in this place
My eyes deceive my heart
I crawl away from you
My head comes back to me
I run straight for the truth
The picture of Laura
I'm being haunted by memories
I've never known
Wishes no one granted
Of the picture I was shown
Asking my Father for something I can't find
That the picture of Laura
Would one day be mine
She is a beauty the boys watch
When she goes by
I guess it could have been true love
If we had tried
But underneath her skin
There was no love for God at all
I could not watch her try to catch herself
When she would fall
The picture of Laura...

Where Can I Hide From You
(Luleo, Sweden & St. Petersburg, Russia)
Carry it up to the highest mountain
Take it down to the bottom of the sea
Hold it in my arms like a baby
Carry it a million miles from me
Watch it grow and learn all over
Everything I forgot and forgave
See it turn around and scare you
Maybe you don't know it this way
Where can I hide this in my heart
Where can I hide from you
Where can I hide this in my heart
Where can I hide from you
Flowers falling red from my hands
I make a bed of petals and thorns
Again I see these sins are covered
I remember the curtain was torn
Watch it grow and learn all over
Everything I forgot and forgave
See it turn around and scare you
Maybe you don't know it this way
Where can I hide this in my heart
Where can I hide from you
Where can I hide this in my heart
Where can I hide from you

Winter
This is winter
The snow falls
The wind blows
Cold in my face
I held you in my arms
And wouldn't let you look down
Stayed with you, you told me about how
You loved your wife
So beautiful so clean
Your music played sweetly
We both listened 'till you fell asleep
This is winter
The snow falls
The wind blows
Cold in my face
And you whom I admire
Is silent I see you trying
But you're stuck inside this body
Won't let you go
But on day I know we'll walk and talk together
I had this dream
Across the room my pillow flies
A child has died
This is winter
The snow falls
The wind blows
Cold in my face
...Winter becomes the spring, then summer
("For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able
to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

It Must Be Hard For God
(Minneapolis, MN)
I get into lots of trouble
When I have nothing to do
I like to be busy, busy
I always find something new
It must be hard for God to Know what to do
Something excites me,
What I have always wished for
But after I've waited and waited and waited
I don't want it anymore
So this thing hangs around my neck
And tries to figure me out
I pretend that it's not there
I can't stand to see them pout
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do
God knows everyone knows I've been good
God knows God only knows
I haven't always done what I should
Two faces and contradictions
A weak and hopeless slave
God won't leave it alone
Oh no He tells it to behave
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do
Like it says there in the beginning
It's not good for man to be alone
This is a nice deserted island
It'll be awhile before I go home
And I get into lots of trouble
When I have nothing to do
I like to be busy, busy
I always find something new
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do
It must be hard for God to know what to do

No Fear In Love
(Ornskoldsvik,Sweden)
Who hasn't failed or walked away
With someone's tears on their face
I only want you to hold my love
Carefully in your hands
Those loving giving hands
Scarred from standing in my place
What I feel for you comes and goes
I'm not sure I will love you
How you love me will you stay
Look into my heart
Only you can make this love grow
What's in me began as a little seed
Oh there is no fear in love
His perfect love drives out my fear
And if I turn away His love's still there
I see His loving face everywhere
Why do I try so hard to perfection
There's been only one perfect man
Sometimes we get far too strong
And my courage fails
I'm on my knees
Oh there is no fear in love
His perfect love drives out my fear
And if I turn away His love's still there
I see His loving face everywhere

I Am Where You Stand
(Minneapolis, MN.)
Laughter in the other room, laughin at me
I look into the mirror
But my face my eyes cannot see
Holding her warm hand turns my heart cold
Life moves slowly when you're young
And hurries when you're old
Someone wrote a poem and signed my name
It wasn't even good still I am to blame
Everything I am is to God's shame
I am willing but this is weak
When I fall you look at me
I am where you stand
I am always so far from home
A long way to go
My legs are tired of holding me up
Selah I'll never know
I just want to finish, I want to pass on through
I want to wake up in your arms
But my dreams are hurting you
Someone wrote a poem and signed my name
It wasn't even good still I am to blame
Everything I am is to God's shame
I am willing but this is weak
When I fall you look at me
I am where you stand

Ransom
There ain't never been a walk so lonesome
Than the walk of a sinning man
You can talk a smile, but all the while
There ain't nobody to understand
That for every laugh you've laughed
There's been a dozen more times you've cried
Cuz' the prison you're in is made of bricks of sin
And you never know your inside
Who will pay the ransom
Who will pay the price
Who's gonna' pay for my freedom, O Lord
And who's gonna' pay for my life
I was a poor sinner living in bondage
Y'know it hurt so bad that I cried
But then the Lord paid the Ransom with the blood
Of Jesus Christ
Well I know about the way of salvation
And I thank the Lord I'm saved
I try to thank Him every night before I fall asleep
I try to thank Him at the break of day
A million dollars couldn't buy me salvation
I couldn't but it with the prayers I've prayed
But the Lord bought it for me with the blood of His son
Now He's taken all my sin away
Who will pay the ransom
Who will pay the price
Who's gonna' pay for my freedom, O Lord
And who's gonna' pay for my life
I was a poor sinner living in bondage
Y'know it hurt so bad that I cried
But then the Lord paid the Ransom with the blood
Of Jesus Christ
He was scourged with metal scraps
'till His back was black with blood
I saw streaks of red flow from the cuts on His head
When they crowned Him with the crown of thorns
They hung him naked on a cross
They drove nails in His hands
I saw tears in His eyes as they pierced His side
And they left Him on the wood to bleed
Jesus paid the ransom
Jesus paid the price
Jesus paid for my freedom, O Lord
And Jesus paid for my life
I was a poor sinner living in bondage
Y'know it hurt so bad that I cried
But then the Lord paid the Ransom with the blood
Of Jesus Christ
Yes they killed my Lord that Friday
But I tell you what I know is true
Jesus gave His life
As a ransom for me and you
Jesus paid the ransom
Jesus paid the price
Jesus paid for my freedom, O Lord
And Jesus paid for my life
I was a poor sinner living in bondage
Y'know it hurt so bad that I cried
But then the Lord paid the Ransom with the blood
