Mikey J born Michael Joseph Johnson hails form Rutland Vermont, and he has been in and around the Rutland area most of his life. Because of his upbringing and the surrounding area, he has never lost his love for small town Americana.

Mikey J and his family finally settled down in the town of Wallingford, Vermont then he finished his schooling in North Clarendon before moving on into adulthood. Mikey J met a key individual that helped him develop as a performing artist in high school by name of Duane Carleton. Duane was already an established guitar player at 14. One of the first results of this friendship was Mikeyâs aspirations to be in a band, an ambition that propelled him into songwriting.

Mikey always found solace in his creative writings and enjoyed his time in school when he had classes that encouraged his creativity, which began to flourish ten fold once he began his career in music. His desire to make it as a legitimate small town success story, coupled with an ability to understand technology, helped him to achieve the success he has known in his career. Even though he really would rather just be sitting on the back porch playing his guitar, Mikey knows that that life is not that easy and he has to continue to work towards his dreams every day.

Mikey J was never as adept with the guitar as his friend Duane, he has let his and writing reflect all of his strengthâs, although he has been moving along at a nice pace with the six-string on his most recent recordings. Friends like Duane Carleton and others have helped Mikey with his musical projects, and they are so important in the entire process that they have become irreplaceable. Mikey J has been in several start up bands including Attica and Chosen and has played many open mic nights in Burlington, Vt, Manchester, Vt., Rutland,Vt. South Royalton, Vt. Tilton, NH, West Lebanon, NH, Ridgefield, CT, and Chandler/Tempe, AZ

Mikey J has always lived life with his heart on his sleeve and music and lyrics are the mirror of his soul. Although sometimes reaching inside and pulling out all of those feelings can be painful, he believes that this is the only true way to enjoy all life has to offer, for without pain there can be no joy, without sadness, happiness has no meaning. Oftentimes people have called him too sensitive and idealistic, but those who have been allowed into his inner circle know a far different side of him and marvel at his resiliency and strength.

Mikey J now lives in Hudson New Hampshire with his two sons Dustin and Stephen and his fish Joe, Fred, Isaac, Stephanie, Lisa, and Beth. You have to hear Mikey Jâs music to understand him and that is exactly what he wants you to do, listen to the music!
