Details:
Michael DeVellis has been playing music the majority of his life. He started with the violin at the age of five and has never let up since. He took up the saxophone at the age of 10 and began playing jazz at the age of 12. Michael continued with both the saxophone and violin as his two main instruments through his high school career. He did however play some trumpet and french horn in school bands. Michael then relocated to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Tufts University where he focused solely on the saxophone and playing jazz. It was at this point that he started his professional career playing out at various clubs. He also started listening to breaks, trip hop, house, and other electronic influenced music. He also began his recording career while in Boston. After completing his studies at Tufts, Michael returned to New York to continue playing saxophone. He joined a band that would become known as Soleo that played mostly funk and acid jazz. He also started playing with dj's in clubs over house music, funky breaks, and acid jazz. From 1998-2003, Michael has toured allover the U.S. and Europe playing with various bands and dj's. He has shared the stage with such musicians as Leo Nocentelli, Oteil Burbridge (bass: Allman Brothers), Derek Trucks (lead guitar: Allman Brothers), Melvin Sparks, Kebi Williams (Peacemakers, and Outkast horns), Jason Crosby (Keyboards and violin: Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and the Jason Crosby Band), Susan Tedeschi ( grammy award nominee), along with many others. In the house and breaks circuit Michael has recorded and played with such notables as Joeski, Onionz, Spun, Atomic Hooligan, Krafty Kutz, Charles Feelgood, M3, Alexi Delano, John Howard, Randall Jones, and many others.

Michael presently runs and produces music for the Pockit Records label. This is the second release on that label is a lead up EP for another full length album which will drop in summer 2007. So check out the funk and keep your eyes and ears open for further releases on Pockit Records.
