Monica Smith has a writing style showing a vulnerability and honesty that is not always heard. She began writing in high school about small broken hearts and new crushes, but her music has become so much more. Monica shows great maturity in her lyrics. Her biggest influences include Patty Griffin, Bonnie Raitt, John Mayer and Sheryl Crow. Her vocal stylings are versatile and smooth as she fits into an eclectic niche in popular music. Jazz and rock influences are the undercurrent in her music, bringing together her unique view as a singer/songwriter.

Monica released her first album Long Way Home in 2004 she recorded with producer/engineer Keith Kenyon. The album is an organic mix of blues and pop. It is a fresh take in the recording world that uses simple instrumentation to create a full sound. âThere are Daysâ is a fun shout out to the female world. On the quiet side âMaybeâ is a hopeful piece where Monica sings of new love. Showing some true musicianship, âAlright Babyâ is a live take in the studio of the band and artist. The album was recorded with many great Nashville players. No drum loops, no programming this album is just authentic music.
