NEW ALBUM 'RED DIRT ROAD' HAS NEW FOLK SOUND
Naomi Sunderlandâs debut album, Red Dirt Road is a delicate and powerful album that combines all the elements of the ânew folkâ movement emerging in Brisbane, Australia. Sunderlandâs songwriting and performance style is a unique fusion of folk, pop, and jazz that is both insightful and inspiring. Influences ranging from Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos, Everything But The Girl and James Taylor show throughout the album. It is an album that provides âmusic to nourish the soulâ.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Naomi Sunderland was born in country Australia (Inverell, NSW) where she grew up singing and dancing around the town with friends and family. She left for the city (Brisbane, QLD) to take on studies at university. While at first it seemed that there wasn't much space for everyday music in the city she eventually teamed up with a band of merry musicians in the form of the Phil Graham Band. After a brief stint living in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (2003-2005) they launched the independent record label Coffee Bean Records.
Coffee Bean Records (www.coffeebeanrecords.com) is a venue to make and listen to music. We try to make music a part of daily life for those who are so inclined. The artists involved in Coffee Bean Records work together in a creative-collaborative process to produce an original and organic style of music that can be made and shared in multiple formats.
Musicians involved in the Red Dirt Road collaboration include: Phil Graham (producer, arranger, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonies); Les Foyle (bass, harmonies, percussion); Tim Gaze (lead guitar, slide); Peter (Willy) Willersdorf (fretless bass, flute); John Barns (drums); and Steve Roy (drums on Track 2, harmonies, congas, bongos). Additional back up vocals were provided by well-known UK folk singer Jo Rose, Catherine Althaus, and Zara Graham.
Naomi is currently recording her next album with Coffee Bean Records in Brisbane, Australia. The album is due out Christmas 2007.
