Daniel Quinlan, the creative force behind Null Hype, likens his approach to that of a painter. "I try to hear the song all the way through first," explains Quinlan. "That way, I'm not writing anything that I wouldn't want to listen to." As that picture becomes clearer, he pieces together a snapshot representing the inspiration behind the song.

In "When You're Dreaming", he explores the risk of opening yourself up to another, and the undying optimism of romanticism: "...if i should die/before i wake, before you wake/ then just pretend I'm sleeping/and I'll see you when you're dreaming..."

In "Watching From Orbit" and "Light Years", Quinlan explores isolation from a Sci-Fi perspective. "Watching From Orbit" paints the picture of a man doomed to die while floating in space. "Lonely beeps/sending out from some circling satellite/machine-like company/the quiet has made me deaf/the beauty has made me blind," he intones in the second verse. "Light Years" lets us glimpse into the gravity of self-discovery: "...and I'm burning on re-entry/to the world I know/I lost control of what I could be/and what I found/I found myself..."
