After several years of practicing Kai and Lia also known as the Old Time Fiddle Kids have finally put out their own CD entitled âThe Fox and the Fiddleâ. This is quite an accomplishment for a couple kids that are nine and seven respectively. Everyone that hears the CD loves it. They have already been interviewed by a radio station from the USA.

Both kids have been involved in the Canadian old time fiddle scene for the past couple years. They have been increasingly getting involved in fiddle contest both in BC and Alberta. There are plans to travel across Canada this coming summer and enter as many fiddle contests as they can squeeze in.

Kai & Lia are very active in playing at local events such as the Plan A rally, BC Agriculture bus tour & gala, farmerâs markets, retirement homes and many other community events.

Last year Lia placed first in the 9 and under category in Abbotsford and placed third in Kelowna at the BC provincial contest. Kai got into the finals at the Grand North American Championship in Le Duc, Alberta last summer and has placed in the top three in contests previous years.

When Kai was three years old he started going to classes with a music teacher named Mr. I and learned the sounds of many different instruments. Then when Kai was four, his parents asked him what instrument he would like to learn. Without hesitation Kai chose the violin. Lia also followed the same path and she was determined to learn the cello. But at four she was too small to start such a large instrument so she started off with the violin, just like her brother.

They have now carried their passion from classical to fiddle music. The music has become their lifeâs blood. Kai and Lia dance around, tap their feet when they hear fiddle music then when they start playing the music will flow.

The CD they just put out is based on a concert they performed in White Rock at the âSpirit of the Sea Festivalâ last summer. Kai made up a story that combines a bunch of fiddle songs heâs learned to form a story about an animal adventure on the farm. The performance a complete success and drew a large crowd, so they decided to put it to a music CD.

Kai and Lia hope to introduce old time music the younger generation. Kai even composed his first tune on this CD "Kai's Reel".
