Details:
Aja West is best known as the composer and producer behind the funk/hip-hop/jazz super group, The Mackrosoft. "The Olympian" finds Aja West bearing his blue soul in this atlas of the hustling game.

Pimping, psychedelics, drowning, redemption and girl's soccer are the subjects stirring in these waters of hybrid funk. Aja West has been called "the Captain Beefheart of hip-hop" (All Music Guide) for his creative use of auto tuned vocals and his tremendously wide and strange vocal range. Minimalist drum beats and deconstructed bass lines mix with a full choir of backup singers, call and responding to Aja Westâs roughneck falsetto. As with every Mackrosoft release prestigious guests like Money Mark (Beastie Boys) and Reggie Watts (Maktub/Soulive) join the groove to great effect.

"The Olympian" letâs you slide deep in the groove sounding like an omelet of "Off the Wall" era Michael Jackson, Oukast, Talking Heads, and Frank Zappa. Youâll have to decide for yourself what genre it belongs under. Six videos from the upcoming Olympian DVD are currently available at www.mackrosoft.com!

Reviews:

"The very bridge between the forefathers â Clinton, Stone, Hancock â and something like DâAngelo."
- Straight No Chaser

"On an epic project, 27 musicians unite to drop a funky, winding tale of musical freedom. Hip-hop edges frame jazz, house and disco-soul as organic instruments mingle with digital manipulators in a seductive dance. Composer and executive producer Aja West has mad chops!"
- URB Magazine

"Minimal drum beats and deconstructed bass lines. Immediate underground funk!"
- XLR8R

"The Mackrosoft crew (brothers Cheeba and Aja West) have thus far sailed under the funk radar, but their mythic notoriety will soon become ubiquitous. Like Disney's Electrical Parade on acid."
- Wax Poetics

"A record thatâs perfect⦠a classic 70s keyboard approach to funk!"
- Dusty Groove

"The slick, fluid instrumental jams here reside in that juicy, bubble-butted zone between the porn-flick score and the blaxploitation-film soundtrack."
- The Stranger

"Unbelievably funky â70s lounge-sleaze instrumentals. Slamminâ,
sample-ready drum lines slathered with vibes, rhodes, sax, and strings from top players. All thatâs missing is some Steely Dan-style crooning, or some Native Tongues-style rhyminâ."
- Amoeba Records

"If the word "hipster" means anything to you, then The Mackrosoft are going to scratch that itch. Big fat "ill" and "dope" drum beats⦠The space between 70s jazz/funk fusion and instrumental hip-hop"
- Gnosis

"Funk-fusion at it's utmost finest"
- JazzReview.com

"The hottest musicians in funk, soul, hip-hop, and jazz come together with all original material. The albumâs musicians are hot producers, bandleaders, and creators in their own right. Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Mike Clark (Herbie Hancock, The Headhunters, Printz Board, (Black Eyed Peas, Nate Dogg, Macy Gray, Skerik (Critters Buggin, Les Claypool, Alex Veley (Maktub, Dolemite), Cheeba (Dust Brothers), and Larry Crane (Brand X) among many others."
- Jazz Profile

"Afro-beat to Blue Note dance floor jazz, vintage fusion to current instrumental hip hop... an aural honey pot."
- Heads Magazine

"The Captain Beefheart of hip-hop."
- All Music Guide

"Hearkens back to the 70âs jazz-fusion giants, echoes of Passport and Transit Express show up along with sedate Chick Corea-like flourishes"
- Progression Magazine

Winner 2006 Jam Band Album of the Year â "Flash and Snowball"
- Independent Music Awards

"Mackrosoftâs influences are clear: Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane. Very sophisticated."
- Krone Magazine

"The Mackrosoft are royalty in Asia! The producer's producer, Aja West, is conducting and producing some of the illest, funkiest, and most intelligent music around."
- DJ Peanuts

"Like your neighborhood Baskin Robbins, you get loads of different flavors, always topped off with sweet syrupy beats!"
- Amazon.com

"He made me bang my head and snap my fingers. I don't know how he did it, but this is definitely one of the best albums Iâve heard in a long time. He somehow created some new style of Hip-hop, something I've never heard before (and as a Hip-hop DJ I listen to lot of stuff)"
- CD Baby

"70âs jazz-funk sieved through rap attitude of the 80âs and 90âs, all flashfried in idiosyncratic mythologies that seem informed by notions of the kung-fu mojo of blaxploitation, ethologyâs implications for human beings, we-come-from-Africa juju, space as final frontier fantasy"
- Earshot Jazz Magazine

"Snappy melodies conspire with slick production to generate remarkable tuneage that bridges old school fusion with modern hip hop sensibilities. The songs are engrossing and full of verve, certain to stimulate the mind while motivating the feet. Imagine Steely Dan fusing with Miles Davis. A tasty dose of jazz-laced funk guaranteed to delight the discriminating listener."
