Dave Berglund â Guitars, Vocals, lyrics
Dave Berglund grew up in Brockton, Massachussetts, at the age of 10 he already had a love for music listening to his sisterâs Beatles albums, Paul McCartney and Elton John. At the age of 13 his mother bought him his first electric guitar and amplifier. Dave taught himself how to play guitar by looking at books of chords. Dave formed his first Rock ânâ Roll band âEquinoxâ at the age of 15 and had already started writing original music. In 1979 at the age of 17 Dave joined the U.S. Navy. Daveâs first duty station sent him to Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean for one year. During this year Dave joined a band on the island called S.O.S. originally as a singer just to be a part of the band but his desire was to play guitar, there were already two guitar players but soon Dave would end up being the main guitarist for the band. They practiced every night in an old abandoned sea plane hangar. On weekends occasionally they got to play at the enlisted manâs club sometime for free and sometimes were paid but it truly helped the morale of being on an isolated island with nowhere to go. After completion of his tour on Midway, Dave got stationed in San Diego and just fell in love with the place. In 1984 after completing his enlistment Dave went back to Massachussetts and continued to play music and got in touch with an old buddy from his teen years with Equinox, Brian Corbett. Dave and Brian, both guitarists, would play some cover tunes and original stuff that Dave would write. Dave and Brian eventually recruited a bass player and a drummer and a singer and rented out a rehearsal studio in Brockton Massachussets and formed a band called âBad Attitudeâ in 1985. Bad Attitude was supposed to be for original music but played covers to get exposure. The bandâs cover songs would include their favorite artists such as Rush, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult.
In 1986 Dave called it quits from Bad Attitude as the rest of the band was too interested in playing cover tunes instead of staying focused on the original track. Dave continued to write original music on his own and still played occasionally with his good friend, Brian Corbett. Dave moved back to his favorite place, San Diego, in 1990 and still resides their to this day.

Frank Bonafede â Keyboards, lyrics
Frank Bonafede was born in Brooklyn, New York. From the age of four through twelve he and his family lived in an apartment above a record store. That along with his fatherâs love for and continuous playing of music in the household was Frankâs initial inspiration for his love of music. Seeing the Beatles perform for the first time in the United States on Ed Sullivanâs television show was a defining moment in Frankâs life. As time passed, and the family moved to Plainview, Long Island, Frankâs love for music continued to grow.
After an eight-year career in the Navy he settled in Washington state. In1995, a tragic accident claimed the life of the three-year-old child of one of Frankâs friends. The day before the memorial service, while helping set up a picnic/barbecue Frank was inspired to write down some words that were ringing in a melody in his head. He had no idea what to do or how to actually put this into a tangible song. A few months prior to the incident he had purchased a used keyboard to âplunk outâ Christmas songs with his daughters. Frank picked out the melody on the keyboard and wrote down the notes. Not having anyone to musically help write the song, Frank contracted with a record label in California that had the ability to develop the song using studio musicians and a singer. The company recorded the song titled âOh Little Oneâ and it was published on an album in 1996.
At that point Frank felt he had the ability and talent to write lyrics and immediately wrote six more songs. Unable to do anything with these lyrics, they were put away for years until March of 2003, when he met what would turn out to be his songwriting partner Dave Berglund in San Diego, California. They clicked
immediately and since then have written and recorded about 100 songs together.


Dave Meets Frank
In March of 2003, Dave who had been working for several years with a major hotel chain in La Jolla California as a Security Supervisor, received a call from his friend, a local jazz musician and also the hotelâs piano player, Shep Meyers, to ask if he had a position open at the hotel as he had a friend looking for work. Dave said, âsure doâ and set up a job interview with Shepâs friend. At that interview Dave met Frank Bonafede. After the interview Frank was hired and Dave was Frankâs training officer. During this time they shared their mutual interest in music. Frank told Dave that he liked to write words, and Dave told him that he had also written original music and words. Frank and Dave eventually shared their lyrics with each other and decided to try writing together. They first met at Frankâs residence. Dave had his guitar and they went over some of Frankâs lyricâs and came up with a tune for one of Frankâs songs called, âKeep Smilinââ. That was actually the first song they worked on together but not the first one they recorded. It wasnât until about a year later after recording a bunch of songs that they returned to working on âKeep Smilinâ and it was well worth the wait as it turned out beautiful. After that first session Dave gave Frank a tape recording of a melody he had but needed lyrics. Frank came up with a few verses of a song called âSummer in San Diegoâ and after polishing a few rough edges of the lyrics with Dave, they had their first original work completed and recorded. Three years and about sixty songs later they are still going strong and if asked they will both tell you theyâre getting even better lyrically and musically.
The two songwriters spend as much time as they can together writing and recording new material and have also become best friends. Frank from New York and Dave from Boston have ended up in San Diego for good. Just a coincidence? Maybe, but they donât believe so.
