Rusty Mainard (drums)
Rusty has been surrounded by music his whole life, beginning with his father, who was an accomplished drummer, and continuing with his uncle who was an accomplished guitar player recently retired from the Branson area. He also has a love for song-writing, which began in junior high. Not long after high school, he began an all original 3-piece band called "Felony" and was soon taken to the recording studio by George Tomsco, an ex-member of "The Fireballs" (Sugar Shack and Bottle of Wine). George inspired Rusty to keep recording and has remained in influence in his entire music career.
At 18 years of age, Rusty traveled around Texas, performing at local clubs and eventsâanywhere he could get the chance to perform. He returned to Kansas City, where he built his own home recording studio to record demos for local musicians. Thatâs where he met Kevin Scott and Mike Criger. The recording began and âBofusâ was born.
Kevin Scott (guitar)
Kevin was born and raised in Kansas City, KS, a suburb of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Kevinâs musical influences began with the endearing show âHee Hawâ that his family would watch every Sunday evening. He was amazed at the pickers and playersâespecially the pedal steel players!
At 8 years of age, Kevinâs uncle began to show him how to play songs on the guitar and he quickly convinced his father to buy him his first guitar and amp. At 18, he began playing in 3-piece bands, but when he met Mike Criger, they formed a new band called âForce of Habitâ.
Years later Kevin began recording in a studio called âThe Vaultâ which was owned by Rusty Mainard. Soon after Mike Criger came in and the trio was called âBofusâ.
Mike Criger (bass)
Mike grew up in middle class America and began playing brass instruments at the age of 12. Years passed as he searched for the Holy Grail of instruments, the one with which he would set the world on fire. Many were tried, but none were found to be "The One." Then one day he heard a band called âKISSâ. Wow! Eyes twinkling, he bought his first bass guitar. The world as he knew it was about to change. "Anchor" was the first band he joined, he and his high school buddies were just beginning to learn the ropes. Through the early college days, he spent most of the time skipping biology to play jazz, blues and rock.
Years passed until he met a young man named Kevin Scott, who smoked on the guitar. The band "Force of Habit" was born. This was the three piece rock band as God had intended it! Other groups like "State of Shock" and "Little Giant" followed but he and his friend Kevin stayed in contact.
Later he was invited to collaborate on another 3-piece band called "Bofus," this time including a talented drummer named Rusty Mainard. Friendship and the music grew. The rest is yet to be seen.
