Details:
According to violinist Darol anger, BAS is The Future of String Band Music on a Silver Platter. They take this admonition seriously, but not too seriously. Each member of BAS comes from a different musical world and the collision of these worlds is what makes their music so special. Shredding guitar licks, soaring gypsy violin, a little ukulele and the thump of an old time bass bounce around with a jazz accordion player to create a new sound. It is American Roots music with the edge of punk rock and the grace of chamber music. Stick around and listen, now is the time.

BAS began with Kailin and Brad jamming together on Pearl Street in Boulder during the summer of 2003. Aaron was on vacation in Boulder and saw them playing. He thought, "I hope I can hook up with players like that when I move here." That September, Aaron was hired to work at HB Woodsongs, a folk instrument shop in Boulder. By coincidence, he replaced Brad as a retail employee. Aaron and Brad met and exchanged phone numbers and were soon playing music with Kailin. After a few open mics and coffee shop gigs, Scott was asked to join to provide the final piece of the puzzle in January 2004. Since then, BAS has been dedicated to both musical tradition and innovation through re-workings of forgotten musical pieces and the composition of new works for their "Neo Acoustic" quartet.

Their debut record, "So Many Stars In the Sky," was release in October of 2004 and quickly sold out of 3,000 copies, a difficult task for a new band. In reference to this record, Brad Weisman from the Colorado Daily said, "...(BAS) creates as pleasant and appealing a listening experience as can be imagined...it lifts the art and soul with dynamic energy that comes from a blend of strong, inventive technique and wry, winning charm." In March of 2005, BAS was chosen to play a showcase at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX, which resulted in a Japanese distribution deal for their first record.

Their interest in the ukulele has lead them to perform all over North America, including California, New York and Nova Scotia. They released their first book of ukulele songs in August of 2005, which allows BAS fans to strum along to their favorite songs. In January 2006, BAS has released their second record "8th Color". It features producer Sally Van Meter, Darol Anger, Greg Schochet and Special Guest String Quartet.

Since the release of 8th Color, BAS has been all over the country playing big and small venues, festivals, house concerts and workshops. In May, they took delivery of four custom ukuleles made by Mike DaSilva from Berkeley, CA. In July of 2006 they competed in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest and placed 2nd place. Not bad for not being a bluegrass band! In Spring of 2007 they will be showcasing at the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis. Also, they will be performing as guest artists and composers with the Wichita Falls Youth Orchestra and the Madison Youth Choir.

In 2007, BAS brings a new CD, a new lineup and a new sound to the world. Percussionist Scott Higgins is leaving the group in order to raise a family and concentrate on his composing and classical music career. Chicago native Scott McCormick is joining BAS part time for 2007 with his funky accordion and soulful voice. McCormick joined BAS to record their third CD, ÒNowÓ which highlights a rootsy, funky side of the BAS musical world.
