Original Modern Country Rock/Americanna with a twist from one of Scotland's finest songwriters
11 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Country Rock, COUNTRY: Modern Country
Details:
Born 19 June 1959 in Dumbarton, Scotland, an industrial town some 4 miles east of Loch Lomond, Brian showed an interest in music, singing from an early age, however it would be seventeen years before he would hold his first guitar, a Gibson Les Paul copy, cherry sunburst of course!
Over the following eight years he cut his teeth and learned his songwriting craft in the live scene playing in various rock band line ups which included future âSharks, Greg Porterfield and Ian Newport. This partnership, unknown to them at that time, would prove to be an essential ingredient towards future success.
In 1984, having become disillusioned with music, Brian sold every guitar he had and it was not until twelve years later in 1996, he would be encouraged to play again.
Heavily influenced by the American âNew Countryâ sound that was being played on UK radio, he found himself writing again.
In 1998, working with producer Kevin Burleigh, Brian began recording at Carlton Studios, Glasgow, and the following year the album DAYS GONE DOWN was released.
The reaction to this album was incredible, and due to demand, he showcased it at a one-off gig at The Renfrew Ferry, Glasgow in 2001. An eleven piece line up, including Greg and Ian, was put together under the working title âThe LoneSharksâ and the sell out show was a resounding success. Unfortunately Brian was not in a position to take the project further at that time.
In 2002, Brian hooked up with Ian Donaldson and Stewart Robertson, and agreed to record the next album at their Maryhill Mansions Studio, Glasgow, and as a result, WINDMILLS was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. The songs attracted the attention of major American publishing house ATLANTA MUSIC GROUP, Georgia.
In 2004, keeping the LoneSharks name, Brian put together a new line up, including current âShark, Robert Jones, to play a few shows however this was another false start due to circumstances beyond their control. Brian called upon his old friends Greg and Ian who answered the call and, along with Robert and newly recruited keyboard player Graham Cordiner, the current LoneSharks line up was assembled.
Also at this time, work had begun on the new album BACK TO WHERE IâM GOING. Produced by Stewart Robertson and Brian, the new songs were beautifully coloured by a host of talented session players, it was released in 2006.
Brian Hughes and the LoneSharks are now established as one of the UKâs top original material live acts, and with three albums behind them, are going from strength to strength, building an evergrowing fanbase on the way. Weâd like to have you on board, so if you are at a show, please come up and say hello, weâd love to meet you.
