Bluegrass music from the heart of America, this group plays everything from traditional bluegrass music to red dirt country, with a bit of blues mixed in to form a well rounded Americana sound.
16 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Bluegrass, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
We took on this project the winter of â06-07. Our working title was âA Stormâs a Cominââ. That seemed to fit since just about every time we went in to record or mix, a big winter storm was either moving in or had just moved out. Probably just another one of those situations of a sign gone unheededâ¦. We ended up calling this one âDonât Play No Slow Songsâ. Thatâs a pretty good description of our sound. Now, donât get me wrong, we have a lot of songs that were written slow in our repertoire. Itâs just that we take them up to the tempo where they ought to be.
The band talent has Paul on guitar, playing the slide steel on a âTear My Stillhouse Downâ and âHeaded Southâ. Those notes just ooze straight from his brain to the strings; itâs an amazing thing to watch. Brother Matt can play just about anything with strings. Well, he canât play a puppet but thatâs another story. These days heâs settled on the upright bass and whether heâs pluckinâ or slappinâ, the soundâs up right all the way. Terri is our lead singer and when you hear her youâll know why, that girl can sing! Also, people tend to not throw things as much when sheâs out front. Me, I just play the banjo, working on it for twenty-some odd years now, still trying to turn it into a payingâ job.
On the songs, it tells who takes the lead on each one but on most youâll hear us all in there somewhere. When weâre harmonizing, Paulâs usually in the tenor/baritone range, Mattâs giving it that âhigh lonesomeâ sound, Terriâs wherever we need her and I bring in the bass. Weâve got a couple of originals on this one, Mattâs âJoshua Kingâ and my âWhat Was I Thinkinâ?â, hope you enjoy those!
Special thanks go out to our Recording Engineer, Ryan Nowels of the Jazz Lab in Edmond, America. We gave him a tough challenge; make us sound like we do when weâre live, but make us sound good. Mix it but donât make it sound like itâs been mixed. He held up his end of the deal.
Thanks to Jack and Bud for coming to all our rehearsals and gigs. As always, thanks to our families, the worldâs greatest, for putting up with us and letting us have our fun. Thanks to the Lord, we hope Heâs our biggest Fan!
