Details:
Carolyn and Dickie Sullivan have been involved in music from a young age. Dickie grew up in the wilds of South Glens Falls, NY. Carolyn was born in Boston, where she lived until the age of 3 months. Carolyn spent her early years in England, returning to Boston at the age of 5. Soon after, she began piano lessons, and music has been a part of her life ever since. Dickie had started playing drums in local bands, adding guitar to his arsenal a few years later. Both were listening intently to the sounds coming from their AM radios. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, The Lovinâ Spoonful andâlaterâLed Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and other giants of the day.
As their love for music deepened, Carolyn & Dickie each developed a strong desire to imitate the lyrics, melodies, and hooks of the hit songs they admired. In other words, they discovered that they both really liked to write songs. By the early 70s, Dickie had moved to Boston, and Carolyn was playing solo concerts at high school and getting ready to go on to Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Carolyn continued to play solo at coffeehouses on campus, and eventually fronted one of the university's popular cover bands. Dickie, meanwhile, continued his study of guitar and songwriting while soaking up the local country rock scene in and around Boston.
As fate would have it, Carolyn and Dickie met through the drummer in a band Carolyn had joined in the early 80s. The two barely had time to compare musical notes when Carolyn took off for a year and a half stay in England. Shortly upon her return, the two songwriting fans reunited and began to write and record together. Eager to develop their craft, the two became involved in hosting a songwriters night at Christopherâs (now TOAD) in Cambridge, MA. They joined the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), becoming Regional Workshop Coordinators in 1995. Before too long, the pull of the Nashville songwriting community became too much to resist, and, after marrying in 1996, they moved to Nashville in 1997.
This CD is a testament to their continuing fascination with the hit song, the story song, the groove song, the thinking song, and any ol' song in between. They decided to make this album the way albums used to be made; with songs that work well together, yet stand on their own. This is a collection of songs of love, loss, and redemption; along the way thereâs hope, fun, and some toe-tappinâ tunes! And letâs not forget a healthy use of reverb and distortion.
