Path Aesthetic is an original heavy-alternative art rock band. Employing groove-oriented bass licks, hard hitting jazz influenced drumming, spatial guitar riffs and over-the-top melodic vocal-manipulation, this collective is ever focused on its art.
5 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Hard Rock
Details:
Mikeâs drums kick-start a kinetic joyride of wild motion. The headlong rush, âShadows of Giants,â utilizes Skottâs intricate guitar webs weaving delicate spidery patterns behind Andrewâs slithery bass and insinuatingly seductive vocals, the harmonies of which trail up and disappear at the end of each line like wisps of smoke.
Andrew, Skott and Mike began playing together three years ago so their ascent to the top of their creative powers is nothing short of amazing. Energetic, atmospheric, aggressive, organic, sophisticated, cynical, dark, edgy and intense, yet still melodic and accessible, you could call Path Aesthetic alt-prog.
The dichotomy between âLittle Windowââs inherent heaviness and its technical highly enigmatic elusiveness (think Pink Floyd on uppers) is its strength. Building its trap to ensnare the ear with its soulful catchiness, the song shifts incessantly between heavy and progressive, actually containing an evocative whistling-in-the-dark passage to calm the fearâ¦and an acoustic guitar solo in the midst of the metal.
Defying easy categorization of a time signature, âSo Good Seeing Youâ is deliciously complex, the most out-there of all five. You could call it psychedelic Stoner Rock if singer/songwriter/bassist/keyboardist Andrew wasnât working on his 8th year drug & alcohol free. As it is, though, itâs forceful as hell, almost puzzling, as if daring the listener to repeat the experience, then rewarding the listener with unheard detail upon repeated exposure. Guitarist Skott positively shines on this one.
âPerfect Gentlemanâ is Hendrixian with a ripping vocal, and an almost Brit-Rock appeal in these three Pennsylvanians from the Lehigh Valley. It drones, bubbles and entices with its mathematic complexity, culminating in a free-for-all band soloâall three instrumentsâbass, drum and guitarâwildly exhibiting their collective latent talent for improvisationâ¦like Cream back in the dayâ¦three simultaneously combusting solosâ¦each in its own orbitâ¦yet somehow miraculously grooving togetherâ¦like a Texas twister growing in spiraling strength.
This incendiary debut EP ends with the perfectly titled, âWhat Next?.â Mike rides the hi-hat with rat-a-tat-tat precision befitting that of a jazz ensemble. Itâs easily the most avant-garde of the five, Skott floating betwixt crash chording, creative feedback and alluring mysterioso improv.
Thereâs no telling what the future may bring for these three supremely talented musicians. Yeah, theyâre on the Path Aesthetic alright, but will it be enough to seduce the corporate suits of what has become in recent years an ugly business? Will pure talent win out in the end? Stay tuned.
