The boys and girls of BGBG pledge 26 minutes of crude, cultured garage rock to the cause of melodic Beat. Fused by Hammond organ interludes, nine packed tunes swing together on Double Date like one perfectly disheveled composition. The steady hammering of guitar, bass, drums and organ, contrasted by wild vocals in shrewd verse, cause body-quaking and glee.

Retro-mod liner notes define "a collection of tunes about love in a modern empire." Defying stock lyrics, BGBG resists boredom through subtle, clever songcraft. "War Baby" starts with soft organ, mimicked by strident guitar, layered with hand-claps and Tim Nelson singing, "They called her Independence; I called her Indy for short." When Jen Jones sings with Nelson on "War Baby" and "Double Agent" one can't help but think of the rightly imperfect harmonies of Exene and John Doe.

Recorded at Sacred Heart Studio, Double Date echoes a set of pointed and muffled mod-rock tunes, just sharp enough to preserve rawness, move and amuse.
