"CROWNS" (recipient of four Helen Hayes awards) is based on the book "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry and recreated as a musical play for the stage by Regina Taylor (Helen Hayes-Director/Musical). The Washington Post writes "this gospel-infused musical has become the most successful show...in the 44 years of the (Washington D.C. Arena Stage) Kreeger" theater. Kristin Everitt-Adcock of Toronto Stage writes: Added to the experience is percussionist Romero Wyatt, whose obvious display of love and enthusiasm for his art is contagious as he performed drumming, stomping, clapping, and dancing. A few numbers were sung without any accompaniment other than Romero's genius, yet were more moving than the addition of instruments".
