Details:
The Rebels, The Rockinâ Rebels, The Buffalo Rebels are many of the names that are related to some great instrumentals and rich musical history of Buffalo, New York. The story starts out in Buffalo with WKBW disc jockey Tom Shannon in 1958. Every new radio disc jockey had to have a theme song, and while visiting the studio owned by Phil Todaro, one was recorded with lyrics and music by the Russ Hallett Trio. In 1959, four young men from Buffalo, formed a group called the Rebels, named after their favorite group â Duane Eddy and his Rebels. The group consisted of twin brothers Mickey and Jimmy Kippler, Paul Balon and Tom Gorman. They met Shannon at a local teen dance and asked him for help in recording âWild Weekendâ as an instrumental. With the help of Steve Brodie and Leonard Silver of Masters Releasing, Inc., the 45 was first released on their Marlee Label and then later licensed to Swan Records. A year later, Syracuse, New York DJ Dan Leonard rediscovered it on WNDR and it became a hit all over again!
Here for the first time in over 30 years, is the original album in itâs entirety with the bonus âWild Weekend Cha-Chaâ, the original flip of the âWild Weekendâ 45 RPM record. Enjoy!
