R. KANE CD AND BAND HISTORY:

R. Kaneâs first CD, released in June 2006, is a 40-minute set of original instrumental tracks for electric guitar, bass, and drums, with cover art by Bob Solete. R. Kaneâs musical style was shaped by British post-punk bands and the no-wave underground in New York City (1979-82). Specific influences that may be heard in the tunes come from Joy Division, the B-52s, Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd., Ian Dury, the Bush Tetras, Sonic Youth, the Cramps, the Units, and Led Zeppelin. R. Kane performed the set in a series of live shows at the Hideout Coffeehouse in Austin, TX during the summer of 2006.

R. Kane began to play electric guitar and drums and compose rock music in New York City, 1979. He was a founding member of several minimalist, post-punk/no-wave bands: the Ugligens, Fakir, and White Harlem.

On a trip to Austin, TX in 1980, the Ugligens (R. Kane and Bob Solete) met Tim Kerr and the Big Boys, who invited them to play a short set between the scheduled bands at Raulâs. This was R. Kaneâs first live show.

Fakir released an independent, 7" single in 1981 and sold 100 copies â each with a unique spray-paint cover made by Bob Solete â at 99 Records on MacDougal St. That summer Fakir played at the Noise-Fest, a 3-day show of experimental music and art at White Columns gallery, NYC, organized by the founding members of Sonic Youth.

White Harlemâs most noteworthy shows took place at the A7 club, NYC, in the spring of 1982.

R. Kane rehearsed as a substitute drummer for Sonic Youth and performed with them at the Mudd Club in July 1982.

From 1992-94 R. Kane was the drummer for the Inhalants, a popular garage-punk band in Austin, TX.
