Whoever coined the phrase âYou canât teach an old dog new tricksâ has never met the bassist named SaNa. At age 50 she learned to play the bass and started her own band. Eight years later she released her 4th CD, Blues From the Heart. Not only did she write, sing, and play the bass on this CD, she also produced and engineered it in her own studio, SaNa Sounds Recording, LLC.

This collection of songs includes funky soul blues with a twist of old school rhythm and blues. The lyrics are vivid. Imagine a flying squirrel thatâs afraid of heights or a vampire bat that canât see at night. How many of us have been that confused in love before? Thatâs what you feel when you listen to âI Just Wanna Make Love to You.â The frustration of coming in fourth place in a blues band contest is so eloquently described in the title cut, âBlues From The Heart,â which is sung by her guitar player of eight years, Vincent Washington. SaNa was born in Bessemer, Alabama, raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has lived and worked in Xenia, Dayton and Cleveland, Ohio. She has taught in Schools of Social Work in Nacogdoches Texas, Grambling Louisiana, Hattiesburg Mississippi, Cullowhee North Carolina, and California Pittsburg. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work in Atlanta Georgia.
