Description:
Award-winning songs in a memorable, poignant, hopeful, wise, and passionate slice of Americana
13 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
Originally from Saint Louis, Missouri, John was influenced early on by that town's rhythm and blues and his Oklahoma motherâs singing. This funky start was drastically tempered by a nine-year stint in a Catholic seminary where silence and Gregorian chant were his daily bread. After leaving the brotherhood, and armed only with his vow of poverty, John moved to New England and pursued the path of an itinerant musician, playing in sundry bands and bad barrooms. It was during this time, he realized, that his audience could not understand Latin.
Winner of both the 2003 Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and the 2006 Rose Garden Coffeehouse Song Contest, John has also been a finalist in many other song contests.
His CD Memory Train was CD of the Week on Chicagoâs WFMTâs Midnight Special.
John lives in Jaffrey, NH with his wife, Jane and 2 cats, Godzilla & Iko.
âJohn's the best singer songwriter I've run into in the last 10 years or so" Bob Franke
"John Schindler is full of wonderful, insightful songs that will find their way into the repertoire of other folksingers. John's songs really connect!" Dick Pleasants, WUMB
âJohn's songs tell his storyâ¦give them a listen." Mary Gauthier
âWise, witty and dark." Charlie Hunter of FLYING UNDER RADAR
âNew Hampshire's John Schindler knows how to translate life into wise, oddly witty songs and his new Memory Train album collects many of the calm little gems he's been writing in recent years" Daniel Gewertz, Boston Herald
âJohn Schindler, an artist in the Greg Brown tradition from Jaffrey, New Hampshire, took top honorâ. Bob Gulla, Providence Phoenix 5/23/06
âA true original.â WUMBâs Boston Folk Festival
âIrresistibly irreverent, the wonderfully, witty John Schindlerâ South Shore Folk Music Club
âI would close for that man again any time.â Tom Rush
