Only itâs the 1990s, Lucyâs name is Debbie, Debbieâs husbandâs name is Bob, and their two spunky golden retrieversâ names are Rocky and Baylor. They all have mal-adjustment issues. Highlights include Debbieâs getting food poisoning on an Amazon vacation. Searching for the right masseuse and learning Portuguese phrases like âPlease stop youâre hurting meâ. Hiring a cook whose food Rocky will not even eat. Debbieâs leaving her purse on the plane in Iguassu Falls. Even a simple errand, like finding a âgray buildingâ, leads to comical misadventures.

There are many ironic stories and "never again" life lessons. Other lessons: everyone is a foreigner, somewhere. When in Rome or Brazil, you'd better do as they do, even if you screw it up.

Background:

My husband, two golden retriever mutts, and I lived in Campinas, Brazil for almost two years as ex-pats. It was a rich source of comedy and adventure. It also helped that Iâve enjoyed writing humor, performing stand-up comedy, and creating cartoons most of my life. Since I didnât have a work permit, I had a lot of time on my hands to write about living in a new country. Brazil is a beautiful country with kind, friendly people. The weather is usually warm and sunny all year round. The food is fresh and plentiful. It was a great experience.

I read a lot of humor to try to develop my own humorous writing style. Some of my humorist idols whom I aspire to write and perform like are David Sedaris, Erma Bombeck, Bill Bryson, Emo Phillips, Steven Wright, Larry David, Phyllis Diller, Rosanne Barr, Woody Allen, George Carlin, Spanky and The Little Rascals, Carol Burnet, Lily Tomlin, Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey, Kathy Griffin, Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman, Betty White and list goes on!
