Folkish - rawish - earthy as rain on a red canyon, featuring acoustic guitar, cello, Native American flute, hand drums and unabashed female vocals, with a touch of the mystical.
8 MP3 Songs
FOLK: like Joni, NEW AGE: Environmental
Details:
As a kid, Shashi had a big mouth when it came to singing (and still does). She didn't care how flat she sounded or if she was singing the right words. She just wanted to sing. This brought some over-the-bifocals looks from her musical directors but, of course, this failed to subdue her enthusiasm. She just kept bellowing like a moose in heat, every chance she got.
She finally realized that not everyone was enthralled with her unconstrained artistic expression, especially since she was an alto. By the grace of the gods, she had an epiphanic moment and realized that in order to avoid damaging any innocent ear drums, she'd better chill out and reflect on the good of the universe.
Many years later, thru courageous soul searching within the inner sanctums of her larynx, she slowly crawled out of her vow of silence and opened her mouth to sing again, with wobbly self-confidence. Luckily (for her and the rest of the planet) she found a voice she could live with, without endangering any species or causing life-threatening avalanches. Since then, we are happy to report, she has received a total of zero glares from professional musicians, except her daughter. But that's another story - however, it should be noted that the underlying glare-causing experiences have been related to non-musical origins. If you have children, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Shashi has done numerous musical stage productions. Concerts and radio shows have also graced her path. She's been writing original music for about 20 years, accompanying herself on guitar or piano.
"Sound of a face" is her debut album. Her folkish, earthy style resonates with her passionate love for Mother Earth. Acoustically accompanying herself on guitar, drums and percussion (don't ask her to do this live), she also bribed several other amazing (and gullible) musicians to play along. It's all about having fun, right?
Her dream is to perform live with Tommy Emmanuel. Who's that? - you ask. Let me tell you who that is. Tommy Emmanuel is the most charismatic, talented, authentic acoustic guitar player you could ever hope to see (or hear). Not to mention his . . . well, we probably shouldn't mention his . . . ok, let's just be fearlessly brazen and mention his cute Aussi accent. (I said Aussi).
Shashi lives in the amazing beauty of New Mexico, surrounded by the richness of Native American culture and the breath-taking splendor of our precious planet. Her music will make you smile.
