Neil wishes to thank everyone buying "No Looking Back" for their support.
Born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Neil's country music roots were nurtured growing up on the family farm near Burford, Ontario. Neil began singing as a young boy in the choir in the small rural church in Mount Vernon that he attended with his family.
He began writing songs and playing guitar as a teenager going to high school during the legendary 1950âs Country rockabilly era and the dawning of Rock ân Roll when Elvis took the world stage by storm with his hit, "Heartbreak Hotel".
Living now in Paris, known as the prettiest little town in Ontario only a few short miles from where he was born and grew up, Neil found it the perfect place to embark on his life-long dream to record an album of his original material and to begin writing his long-postponed novel.
Neilâs debut album "No Looking Back" released in August 2007 resulted in two songs â "The Cowboy Song" and "The Restless Wind" reaching # 1 on the IAC Music Country chart and # 1 on the CASHBOX Magazine Country Chart. Two other songs â "All Through The Night" and "Thereâs Just The One And Only You" reached # 1 on the IAC Music Easy Listening/Soft Rock chart.
Glen Streimer, President of Music Canada calls Neil âCanadaâs cross between Johnny Cash and Willie Nelsonâ.
From tumbleweeds drifting along old Route 66 and flashy 1950âs convertibles to rusted-out flatbed trucks and walking down railway tracks, it is hard not to picture Johnny Cash here. Even more so with Neil's self-effacing western lilt and a soft southern drawl influenced in part during his teens while toiling in summer sun-baked Southern Ontario tobacco fields alongside his co-workers from the Carolinaâs and Georgia.
Neil was honored to be named as one of the âawesome Indiesâ artists on the front cover of the July 1, 2007 Cashbox Magazine, and at the 2008 IAIA (International Academy of Independent Artists Golden Kayak Awards Neil received the Golden Kayak Award for Best Country Song 2007 - "The Cowboy Song".
At the 2008 Hamilton Music Awards Nominee, Neil was a nominee for New Country Recording of the Year for his debut album "No Looking Back".
The multi-talented line-up of musicians in the The Legendary Bear Creek Band on Neil's debut album titled "No Looking Back" included Juno nominee and international recording artist Ray Lyell on acoustic and bass guitar, keyboard, harmonica and backing vocals, Gary Borden on lead guitar, Ken Baird on piano, Steve Petrie on pedal steel guitar and fiddle, and vocalist Paula Tessaro joining Neil on lead vocals on the track "You Just Turned My Life Around".
The album was co-produced by Neil and Ray Lyell. It was arranged, engineered and mixed by Ray Lyell, recorded at Rayne Records in Hamilton Ontario and mastered at Grant Avenue Studio also in Hamilton.
Joining The Legendary Bear Creek Band in the studio on Neil's second album âWhat Difference Will It Makeâ recently completed and recorded at Rayne Records and soon to be released is Roger Banks on drums and Mike DeBenedictis on bass guitar.
Neil is pleased and honoured to have the following guest musicians and artists featured on various tracks on his aforementioned new album: Gary Ashthorpe on piano, Randal Hill on banjo and mandolin, David Rodenburg on sax, Glenn Higgins on sax, and Anne Lindsay on fiddle.
A nine time winner of Canadian Bluegrass Mandolinist of the year, Randal Hill has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Sylvia Tyson, Ian Thomas, Graham Townsend, Prairie Oyster, Big Redd Ford, Tom Wilson and many others. A professional band leader and sideman (for 33 years and counting) touring Canada, the U.S. and Europe, Randal is also an in-demand recording session musician.
During his time playing in the house band at Lulu's (the world's biggest bar at the time) David Rodenburg performed with such greats as The Temptations, Billy Preston, Ben E. King, The Drifters, Del Shannon, and the Fifth Dimension. David has also performed for luminaries including US Vice President Dick Chaney and Mickey Rooney. Performing and recording now with his band "The Soul Mission" in venues in Kitchener Ontario, David also continues to perform internationally with The Drifters.
Glenn Higgins has also performed with The Temptations and The Drifters as well as such legendary groups as rhythm & blues duo Sam & Dave, Crowbar, Juno Award winning Lighthouse, and with the Illustrations - a ten-piece Jazz/Rock group featured in the Rolling Stone magazine in the 1970's, as well as with various bands in Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico.
Acclaimed fiddler/violinist Anne Lindsay has performed and recorded with numerous artists including Led Zeppelin, The Chieftans, Roger Daltry, Dionne Warwick, Natalie McMaster, John McDermott, Blue Rodeo, the Jim Cuddy Band and others. She played a key role as folk fiddler in the Lord of the Rings stage show.
Neil is honoured to have such accomplished musicians and artists performing on his albums.
A Western Ontario Secondary School Honour Athlete and graduate of Burford District High School and of Waterloo Lutheran University (now known as Wilfred Laurier University), Neil also claims to hold a hard earned PhD and Masters Degree from the University of Life.
He purposely spells his name, Neil w Young, with his middle initial âwâ always appearing in the lower case with no period following it.
Neil maintains an active internet presence on various web sites including neilwyoung.com, iacmusic.com/artist.aspx?ID=60198, myspace.com/therealneilyoung, reverbnation.com/neilwyoung, broadjam.com/neilwyoung, facebook.com/neilwyoung, radio3.cbc.ca/bands/neil-w-young-the-legendary-bear-creek-band and on other music web sites.
