Originally formed in the summer of 1989, The Sluggos have become as much a Wichita, Kansas, tradition as breakfast at the Beacon -- and just as tasty. Though the earliest incarnations of the band were essentially defunct by 1991, popular demand dictated a series of reunion shows starting in the year 2000 and continuing through 2005, when a steady-rocking modern version of the band was re-formed.

The group revolves around the songwriting axis of Michael Carmody (formerly of Sunshine Family, Carganza, Jones Six, New Deal, etc.) and Wayne Gottstine (Split Lip Rayfield, Scroat Belly, National Gardeners, etc.), both of whom also hold down lead vocal and guitar duties. The bass-drum battery of Mitch Clay (Scroat Belly, Technicolor Headrush, Knight) and Doug Van Es (Big Bruiser, Hot Soup, DJ Numb Zen, etc.) holds down the beat and provides an elegant framework on which Carmody and Gottstine's guitar embroideries drape gorgeously.

The Sluggos have been deemed Wichita's best live pop group by prolific music writer Jedd Beaudoin, managing editor of Wichita City Paper. The band's long-awaited studio album "Songs About Girls" -- its first release since 1991's live offering "...Sifting for Victims" -- was recorded at Rockin' Daddy's (long-time home of C Major Guitars) by local legends Tom Page and Albert Alfonso of TopTone Records. While in the studio, the band was videotaped for an upcoming documentary on the Wichita music scene, due out later in 2007.
