Details:
In their 2007 recording debut âAmar y Quererâ, Los Nooners bring together some of San Diego, Californiaâs most sought after musicians to create gorgeous textures behind Los Noonersâ sweeping, elegant harmonies. Producer Gerry Guevara (B-Side Players) â assisted by his mentor, jazz artist Kamau Kenyatta â realizes his vision to present the Latin American vocal trio style in unique settings. The arrangements are inspired by Afro-Latin and Mexican genres, bringing new life to old standards and reworking some more recent songs.

Los Nooners came out of the border culture of San Diego, just minutes away from Mexico. Their sound mixes influences of Mexican folkloric music, Latin Pop, and other Latin American styles, while honoring the richness of the tradition of the vocal trio. The group began in 1993 when Gerry Guevara, Rafael Pinedo, and Francisco âKincoâ Pinedo decided to entertain friends and family at small gatherings. They drew material from their parentsâ record collections consisting mostly of trios like Los Panchos and Los Tres Ases. With the addition of lead guitarist Giovanni Mejia (B-Side Players, Agua Dulce, Los Alacranes), their sound was complete and authentic. Early audiences were surprised to see a younger generation carrying on the tradition of the romantic bolero and sometimes peppering in some modern hits recreated in a traditional style.
