ROCK: Folk Rock, ROCK: 90's Rock
Details:
Springhill, a Pittsburgh based folk-rock band, was formed when Dan Prokop met Chip Hothem in college, where they began playing and writing music shortly after meeting. The name was taken from a nearby Amish driveway, Springhill Lane. Joining the group soon after the songwriters met was Jeremy Harchelroad and Josh LaValle. The band has been influenced by a variety of artists, from The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Ben Folds and Jack Johnson. Feel-good music reminiscent of the early '90's is layered behind melodies that will make you want to sing along. Added to the catchy pop/rock songs are improv solos by each member of the band, experimenting with their love of playing music. This smooth inventive feel-good jam with a pop/rock mix is sure to leave you wanting more.
Springhill's debut EP, a self-produced six song CD entitled A Year From the Valley, was released in October of 2005. Recording began before Josh officially entered the band, therefore featuring Dan on the bass. The then trio spent the summer of 2005 enjoying their first time in a professional studio, recording the first of their original songs which have since been played on several college radio stations.
Quotes about Springhill's "A Year From the Valley":
"The vocalist has a fantastic tone that begs to be sung along to."
"This pop/jam band is the roll-down-the-windows-and-sing type." -Independent Clauses
"Incredible melodies and infectious songwriting will be under your skin... often compared to R.E.M, Springhill provides the molded rock tunes that Pittsburgh NEEDS... it's what's been missing from the scene since flannel went out of style and emo came in." -Beejae, Founder of Rock United
"You guy's have your own sound. It's like a cool hippie vibe but with nice hooks." - Bob Wisenor, Pittsburgh Rock Press
