Details:
Richmond, Virginia born songbird Tameka Dawn is often described as âa magnetic force that naturally draws admirers to her personable and intimate performances.â Singing while riding in her toddler car seat, Tamekaâs mother realized her childâs natural gift at the ripe old age of two. Her God given raw talent has been cultivated through the many life experiences she has had to mold and shape her craft. Her sound is described as unique, smooth and sexy, yet powerful and captivating. Known for her sophistication and class, meek and humble demeanor, beauty, and radiant smile, all fans and admirers say, âthe world needs to hear her voiceâ and âitâs just a matter of time until the world discovers her!"
Tameka is a "gem" amongst the finest jewels. She can do it all, from exacting harmonies to taking the lead and commanding the stage. Tameka is the perfect compliment to the front line as she brings beauty, grace, and unbelievable vocal power.
Inspired by the music of the 70âs and 80âs, Tameka Dawnâs angelic voice echoes of old-school divas like Minnie Riperton and Denise Williams. Her old-school R&B Vibe caters to the likes of both young and old.
Talent and Beauty Scholarship Pageants provided a platform for Tameka to exercise her stage poise, performance and natural vocal abilities. Her pageant experiences began during her elementary school years, continuing on until college. Through the help from parents, her winnings of several titles including Miss Alpha Phi Alpha, and her earnings through summer internships with A&M Records, she completed her education at Purdue University where she earned a degree in Nursing, and pledged the historically black sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. Being a college graduate as well as having a reputation as a popular vocal artist, Tameka made a life altering decision which was to pursue her music career full-time.
Fiercely progressive in her career, co-managing and booking herself, she has received wide recognition in her worldwide Independent journey. The Dusit Dubai in the United Arab Emirates described Tameka Dawn as having a âdistinctive style and electrifying on-stage presence.â Hipster Magazine, the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and the St. Louis American have also recognized Tameka Dawn as an artist on the rise. In addition to the growing buzz across the U.S., she's toured the Middle East for six months, and continues to build her international fan base.
Her vocal abilities has lead her from recording with Aloha Recordâs national gospel artists Prosperity, to Lead and Background vocals for a variety of national recording artists such as Lilâ G of Silk, St. Louisâs own Queen of Radio Isis Jones, P-Dub âPretty Willieâ, Wendell Brown of star NBA player Jahiti Whiteâs label âCuzzo Entertainmentâ/Hornsby-Lee Music Group, Julius Williams, and American Idol Finalists Nikko Smith, Aloha Mischeaux, DeAndre Perryman, Taynka, and Philipe. Sheâs been a main attraction at Garyâs Fine Dinning in the heart of St. Louisâs Entertainment District where it is known for the best live entertainment in the city and attracts celebrity and worldwide patrons. Tameka has performed at the Annual Fundraising Event for Nelly and Marshall Faulk, the âThe 5Spotâ hosted by BETâs Comic View comedian Maurice Rankin, the Indiana Black Expo Music Celebration, the Missouri Black Expo Music Fest, and a host of other charitable and community events in several U.S. cities. Tameka is also recognized for her contribution in the commercial world for Colt 45 jingles, and National City Bank bill board print modeling. She is versatile in vocal style ranging from Gospel, R&B, Jazz, and Latin with an unsurpassed vocal range to match.
Tameka has opened for several national jazz recording acts such as Pieces of a Dream, Bob Baldwin, Marian Meadows, Tim Cunningham and Chiele Minucci of Special EFX, and has performed with the St. Louis Symphony In-Unison Chorus. She has also shown her versatility in hit gospel plays such as âGodâs Trying to Tell You Somethingâ, and her leading ensemble role with the St. Louis Black Repertory Theatreâs hit Musical âTell Me Something Good.â
Most recently, Tameka is excited about the completion and release of her self-titled debut CD Tameka Dawn âDawn of a New Day.â Recorded with the help of National recording artist/award winning songwriter/producer James Glasco (Sony Music Group) and Grammy Award songwriter/international recording artist/producer Royal Bayyan of the legendary group Kool and the Gang. Royal Bayyan is credited for his mentoring of Teddy Riley and Mos Def, discovering and producing the group Color Me Bad and the solo artist Pink, and his work with Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, Tupac Shakur, Freddy Jackson, Melissa Morgan, and a host of other talented artists. Other Tameka Dawn recording collaborators include DJ super-star/producer Tyler Townsend for Teddy Riley, the group âGuyâ, and âBlack Street" ; NY producer/songwriter Tarik âLoc Doorsâ Bayyan; NY rapper Black Pearl; St. Louis rapper Vandalyzm; Hip Hop producers Killa Squad; National recording artist/songwriter Parrice Smith; Hip Hop producer/songwriter DeSh Brown; and National recording artist/rapper Lippsy.
âI Do", one of the songs from the Debut CD, has received rave reviews and radio airplay by DJ Rita Jones of 89.3 FM Atlanta, who was responsible for breaking the artists India Arie and Erykah Badu in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
Tameka has coined this CD as, "an old age recipe, which contains natural organic ingredients of love relations, and is baked with the new age heat of sensuality that has produced a good blend, one that will bear fruit from old roots. There's a lot of me on it. I came from the school of hard knocks, where learning was experiencing things the hard way. I'm definitely hoping to show young women how to stay positive and poised, empower each other, love self and those who love them, and follow your dreams, even in the midst of adversity. I believe some people get success by chance, but others are destined for success through the struggle. Dreams Do Come True!"
Tameka continues to pursue her dream toward International notoriety, as she takes the world by storm.
