Details:
THE SLOW BURN is a DC-area rock band that plants original, hook-laden music in the soul of every listener. The Slow Burn steeps a rich blend of roots rock and alt-country in a variety of other influences to yield a unique bounty of sonic bliss. Ted Donat and Paul D'Andrea provide a dual guitar attack, while Dale Juarbe (drums) and Dennis Feeney (bass) drive a rhythm that lights the coals to set your heart smoldering!
Ted Donat - Rhythm guitar and vocals: Ted grew up in and around New York City, so it's no surprise that his style reflects a rich variety of influences as diverse as the city itself. Strains of rock, pop, ska, folk, post-punk, jazz and alt-country suffuse his unique writing and singing style. When the boys are cookin', Donat pulls out his baby blue Fender Strat with Lace pickups, plugs it into his Fender Deluxe and serves up a hearty helping of back bacon! Ted draws inspiration from his wife Avril and kids Madeleine, 4 and Lucas, 1.
Paul D'Andrea - Lead guitar and vocals: Whether it's rock 'n' roll, classical, bluegrass, jazz, or Mongolian throat singing, Paul loves a great song. He plays a Fender Stratocaster, inspired by all the standard classic rock heroes - Hendrix, Santana, Page, etc. He lives in Maryland - across the river from his native Virginia - with his two sweethearts, wife Susanna and daughter Chiara.
Dale Juarbe - Drums and percussion: Dale's 15 years of drumming are the driving force behind The Slow Burn. His battery combines Jackson Custom Maple drums and Zildjian cymbals with influences from the usual culprits - Peart, Bonham, Paice, Copeland, Mullin, Rudd, and others. A Philly native, Dale currently lives in Woodbridge, Va. with his wife, Lucia, and their children, Heather and Michael.
Dennis Feeney - Bass guitar and vocals: Dennis holds down the low end for The Slow Burn. He's been playing bass, writing songs, and singing rock, country and jazz music for more than a quarter century. Hailing from Laramie, Wyoming, he recently established a new home range in the Washington, DC area. Dennis plays a custom Stonetree P-bass, and a Rickenbacker 4003 through an SWR bass amp. He enjoys spending non-band time with his wife, Heather, and their daughter, Cora.
The Slow Burn project had its genesis in early 2000 in the living room of Ted Donat, a vocalist and guitarist who had recently moved from New York City. In NY, Ted had been playing with his band Strange Bedfellows for the better part of 10 years and had recently cut a CD which he had shopped around and received favorable reviews and some major label interest. When Ted announced his intentions to move to DC, a friend he had met during his internship at the record company NYNO named Pemberton Roach suggested that he look up a great guitarist he had played with in college. That friend was Paul D'Andrea, guitarist extraordinaire.
Ted and Paul quickly recognized a mutual affinity for melding classic rock and roll with more modern textures. Ted and Paul got together sporadically to jam and gig over the next four years in venues including the Rhodeside Grill and Jammin' Java, but they were each distracted by life events, including the birth of Paul's daughter Chiara in 2000 and the birth of Ted's daughter Madeleine in 2001.
In 2004, they decided to get serious and put an ad in the Washington City Paper trolling for a bass player and a drummer. After many frustrating auditions in Ted's garage, they were about ready to throw in the towel when a rare talent from the Rocky Mountains walked into their lives. Earnest, intense, personable and unquestionably talented, Dennis Feeney had recently arrived from Laramie, Wyoming, where he had been playing with his band The Den Dogs. In addition to his obvious skills on the bass, Dennis, like Ted and Paul, came with a catalog of songs. Dennis injected some dusty Western sensibility into the proceedings.
Dennis tracked down drummer Dale Juarbe who had a strong appreciation for the classics but could also assimilate a reggae beat when necessary, and soon The Slow Burn were a strong foursome. The chemistry was electric from those first sessions in Ted's garage in the late Summer of 2004. By Christmas, The Slow Burn had played our first gig at Paddy's in Gaithersburg, followed by a series of appearances at The Austin Grill in Silver Spring, The Grog & Tankard in DC, Zig's Bar in Alexandria, VA and legendary DC-area club IOTA in Arlington, VA.

Unbelievably good. Strong, true melodies that get deep under your skin (in a good way, not like a rash or anything). Vocals are awesome. Every time you listen to these tracks, the effect is more powerful.
