Take a hard rock batter mixed with a pinch of pop and a dash of rhythm to move your feet, toss in the "fun oven" for 20 minutes, and presto, out comes a tasty helping of The Better Life.

ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Hard Rock
Details:
As any aspiring musician knows, making it in the music industry isnât easy. From dealing with promoters, building a solid fan-base, and having at least a sliver of musical talent, making a career out of rock and roll can be a tough, and often discouraging, decision. While many assume that being âgood enoughâ will take them as far as they need to go, the five young men in The Better Life have decided to take matters into their own hands, the result being expressed in their debut release âLast Call Homeâ.
The story of The Better Life begins at an ending. While Gunnar Cook (guitar), Adam Dodge (bass), Brian Moen (guitar), and Jesse Mattila (drums) had been writing and playing together for nearly a year, they had yet to develop their band to the level they desired. After some discussion, the band decided to start over from scratch in August of 2006. Through a series of tryouts, the band found its front man in Jordan Kullmann, and began to write an entire new set of tunes. Six months later, the band went into Cathouse Studios with producer/engineer Mike Dresch to record their debut CD, âLast Call Homeâ. After four fun days in Sioux Falls, the guys headed home with the finished product and set up their CD Release show, to be held at the Hastings VFW hall on February 16th, 2006.
While still a new band in the local scene, the band has had plenty of experience playing out in their area. In previous groups, the boys have shared the stage with local and national artists such as Small Towns Burn a Little Slower, Quietdrive, Four Letter Lie, The F-Ups, The Semester, The Elms, Gloria, A Verse Unsung, The Sixless, The Great Physician, Lies in the Effort, and countless others.
The boys in The Better Life knew from the get-go that the only way to win an uphill battle is to keep on hiking. By committing to a DIY work ethic that would put most punk bands to shame, The Better Life has established their own flexible plan for success. Be on the lookout for updates about shows and merch in the near future, and donât forget to pick up a copy of âLast Call Homeâ. Not only does it sound good, it makes a great addition to any mantelpiece.
