Description:

(ID 1677740)
Slow-burn improv music. Inspired by harmolodics, folk music, 20th century classical music and old pop records. It is like a journey through different colours and expressions, where the musical building bricks are torn down, rearranged and reassembled.

Details:
"Time Jungle" has liner notes by Marilyn Crispell. Quote: âThe compositions and the playing on this CD are wonderful. I felt like I was being taken on a journey. Sometimes I had impressions of New Orleans, the Caribbean, Arabia, northern tundras, and even Mongolia.(â¦)It's a beautiful and impressive CD. Thanks, Gunhild!â

Gunhild Seim is a trumpet player and composer living in Stavanger, Norway, who works within jazz and related genres. She is contributing her trumpet sounds both to folk musicians and impro/contemporary musicians, as well as composing for various ensembles. Now for the first time she puts out an album with her own compositions, together with her band Time Jungle. Producer and guest artist on the album is New-York sax player Andrew DâAngelo. In 2004, Gunhild played with Andrew DâAngelo for the first time, and this was such a eye-opening experience that she asked Andrew if he would produce the debut album of Time Jungle. He answered that he would like to both produce and play on the album, so Andrew and Time Jungle went to the studio and recorded 7 of Gunhilds compositions. The result is an impressive album of slow-burn improv music, where the extreme blowouts often associated with the improv genre are toned down and mixed with slow, friendly moods, strange but playful melodies, fragile and honest conversations and extended melodic development.

Gunhild Seim
has studied trumpet and composition with Dave Douglas, among others, and holds a degree in trumpet performance and composition from the University of Stavanger, Norway and Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense, Denmark. She has been working as a trumpet player and composer within jazz, ethnic and contemporary music since 1998. Since 2003 she has been focusing on performing her own compositions. She is one of the founders of the 12-piece ensemble The Kitchen Orchestra (www.kitchenorchestra.no), consisting of professional classical and jazz musicians working with conducted collective improvisation. With help from the organisation Ny Musikk and The Norwegian Arts council this ensemble has been able to invite and perform with several internationally acclaimed artists: danish composer/free jazz musician Lotte Anker (Copenhagen Art Ensemble) and british free impro-legend Steve Beresford among others. The Kitchen Orchestra has also conducted a workshop for Norwegian symphony orchestras. In 2005-06 Gunhild has also toured Norway with the Norwegian folk music ensemble Kreik.
