My name is Truman Melton. I am 14 years old. Now wait...I know what you're thinking: "Psh...he's just a kid." Well yes, I am, but I think I have the right to say that I am no ordinary 14-year-old.
Music has been a part of my life since birth. At age four, I began piano lessons. Ten years later...and I have learned from professionals to not only play piano but guitar, trumpet, bass, and harmonica. I can also hold my ground when it comes to drumming. However, when it comes to my specialty. Anyone that knows me will tell youâ¦itâs guitar. You play me a song, solo, or riff and in a matter of a few minutes, I can play it, just by listening. Just last year, a few buddies and I won "Battle of the Bands '06" in my city. I was 14.
Over the summer of 2006, I wrote my first song. Nearly a year later and I already have 57 songs. Also over the summer of 2006, I tried my hand at recording with a friend of mine. We called ourselves "30 Minute Parking," and we recorded an album with 12 songs entitled "Jamminâ at Pollyâs," with 3 cover songs, and 9 originals split between the two of us. It was a mixture of jam-band, acoustic, and just plain olâ rock nâ roll.
January of 2007 and Iâm back. This time itâs just me and my own songsâ¦and a bunch of tracks to do. Luckily, I had another friend help me speed up the process on the drums. A few recording sessions later and this is what I gotâ¦Truman Meltonâs "This Is Where I Belong."
