JJ and Mark O'Connor are a father/son duo. They have just released their third album on CD Baby. In the past year they played as a band: first as a sextet, then quintet, quartet, trio, and currently, duo. Hence their band name, "universe narrows." Gigging is fun, but composing in Mark's basement studio is more fun. There's the Kay guitar, made of industrial strength plywood, the genuine musical saw, the toy piano, a huge guitarron, JJ's nylon twelve string guitar (badly warped), coconut shells which almost sound like horses' hooves, and much more. With all that stuff, itâs hard to leave the basement. Nonetheless, they do occasionally emerge so they don't become unhealthy recluses and depress their wives.
