A masterpiece in traditional Hindustani classical Khayal singing. Six renditions of different ragas, improvised with great dexterity and emotion.
6 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Asian, CLASSICAL: Traditional
Details:
Vinayak M. Phatak began learning Hindustani vocal music with his mother (Mrs. Manorama M. Phatak) in his childhood: her own training from the legendary Pt. Vinayakrao Patwardhan and Pt. D.V. Paluskar helped to instill in her son a love for Khayal, and gave him a deep and solid foundation in the style and repertoire of the Gwalior tradition.
In his new album, Vinayak explores 6 different ragas, each composition a unique snapshot of the Raga, and this particular view contributes to the way in which improvisation is structured around the composition. Through performance, the performer pays homage to the Raga as one would to any great and inspirational personality. He continues the tradition he has inherited from those before him. In Vinayakâs case, the outstandingly knowledgeable and accomplished Gurus, Pandit Vyas, Joshi and Pai.
This performance of six Ragas thus becomes his contribution to the continuance of a great tradition, and a gift to his listeners.
Credits:
Vocalist: Vinayak M Phatak
Harmonium: Neelesh Nadkarni
Tabla: Ed Hanley
Produced by Rakesh Sidana & Vinayak M. Phatak
Recorded and Mixed by Ed Hanley
Mastered at Cherry Beach Sound, Toronto by Alex Bonenfant
