Formed in 2005, West Eats Meat is a blend of Indian music and other Eastern sounds with the Western idioms of rock and free jazz. The genesis of the band lies in the experimental instruments created by luthier Ari Lehtela. Blending elements of the Indian Sarod and Sitar with the guitar, the end result is much more that each alone.

6-string Bassist John Shaughnessy and Drummer John Spurrier are both veterans of the Charlotte, NC jazz scene. They had the experience needed to realize Ari's new compositions.

After a couple of early gigs, West Eats Meat was born.

The group has moved steadily away from composed music, and towards collective free improvisation. The songs presented here were formed from basic "sketches" of a melody, bassline or chord progression, or freely improvised on the spot.

In 2006 the group recorded this CD, its first. Except for the intro and reprise "loops", the rest of the album was recorded live to digital multitrack in one session. No overdubs or retakes were used in the recording process.
