âPresumably joking, Niespodziani has called himself the bandâs âresident bitch,â but attitudes aside, he and Olson are the backbone of Y O U and are largely responsible for the bandâs growing repertoire. Its website features a series of music videos, both live-action and animated, as well as some installments from a mockumentary still in progress. Both the music and images provide a window into the lives of Y O Uâs members because Niespodziani says he starts his songs with a real story from his experiences and combines this truth with fictional elements or ideas from movies and books.â

Notes/Highlights:

* Flashlights (Jan 2007 release) will be the art rock trio's third release. Geoff Melkonian (Five-eight, The Whigs) produced and Dave Barbe (Sugar, Drive by Truckers) mixed the effort. The album will be spun at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, courtesy of one of the festival's sponsors.

* The band successfully licensed a song to the Coca-Cola Company this spring for synchronization in a global TV advertising campaign. The ad aired in 12 European countries and featured the group's signature harmonies and other edits from "Good Luck with that American Dream."

* Y O U has opened for the likes of Kinds of Leon, The Features, and Better than Ezra, and will support Shawn Mullins next week for a show in Columbus GA.

* Y O U co-wrote, performed and produced "Strongbad Sings", the hit soundtrack from underground web sensation Homestarrunner.com. The album has sold 50,000+ units and helped Y O U develop its national following.

* In addition to its music, the group is known for its library of high quality videos produced on shoestring budgets, including the animated La Lindsay (www.pleaserock.com/lalindsaymusicvideo.html) directed by the Brothers Chaps.
