Details:
While Maryland based group 5410 was formed just 2 years ago, members Chris McDonald and Justin Moultrie had no problem finding a musical chemistry. Friends for almost 10 years, the duo met as freshman at Bowie High School, in Prince George's County, Maryland, and hit it off thanks to their love of music. Sharing lyrics and poetry led to writing sessions and recordings. While a brief stint as a rap duo never materialized, Moultrie and McDonald remained friends through high school.
After graduation, Moultrie attended the University of Maryland, while McDonald worked part time and attended Prince Georges Community College. A great reception at the school's talent show motivated McDonald to produce and release an album under the name Backdraft, called The Panacea. Selling copies from the trunk of his car, the album never caught on, and McDonald once again hung up his mic.
Meanwhile, while attending UM, Moultrie began diversifying his musical portfolio, citing John Mayer, as well as a relationship with his own "City Love", as inspiration to learn guitar. Feeling more of a rush plucking strings than he ever did with a pen, Moultrie has gone on to study the greats, and never looked back.
Fast forward to fall of 2005, and a chance meeting at a friends house turned into a 2 day jam session between Moultrie and McDonald, who had been brushing up on piano, as well as honing his vocal chops. The result: numerous nights spent in Justin's campus apartment discussing relationships, both past and present, and making songs about them. His apartment number: 5410
The duo, whose unique Hip-Hop/Soul/Alternative influenced sound is gaining more and more fans, took 2006 to write and record their debut E.P, Between Then and Now. With McDonald handling the lyrics, piano and drum programming, and Moultrie lending his thumping basslines and soulful guitar riffs and licks, the group is poised to stand out in a crowded field of music, by simply being themselves. With an undeniable chemistry, built from friendship to bandmates, 5410's time looks to be now.
