Formed in early 2004, 5th Gear set out to play the rock music that they grew up on, blending classic rock aesthetics with a modern rock mentality to create a sound that is edgy yet melodic and soulful. They performed at local hot spots thoughout central and southern Florida. 5th Gear received significant radio play on top local radio station 103.1 with their song Crumble. The band topped off the year 2005 with the 4th annual Thirsty Melon Music Festival which took place inside the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville. In 2007, 5th Gear continues to play throughout central and southern Florida with their unique style of original southern-tinged mainstream rock as well as playing rock and roll standard covers from classic rock to modern rock. Spearheaded by the Allman Brothers, the South sprouted a viable, back-to-the-roots alternative to the major rock power centers like New York and Los Angeles. Following the Bros. were the old-school R&B of Wet Willie and the surly, blues-charged rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd. These Southern bands made their mark, and much of their spirit lives on in South Florida's 5th Gear. But they commingle the earthier aspects of back then with the baleful melodic edge of more recently (Stone Temple Pilots, Nickelback).
