Red Hot Rockabilly
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Rockabilly, ROCK: Roots Rock
Details:
The Gulley Jimson Quartet plays a mixture of neo-rockabilly and americana with a dash of punk rock energy. The two vocalists sing songs about drinkin', trains, bad girls and more drinkin'. The band is from the DC area and plays homage to the local rockabilly tradition by covering Link Wray's "Rumble." Check out the mix of originals and the occasional cover.
Here's what one fan wrote about the band after seeing a show at the Hirschhorn Musuem in DC:
"Last but not least, I need to talk about the best band I've heard in at least six months. I think the name of the band was Gulley Jimson, and you couldn't really hear the vocals b/c the sound in the box-like basement floor was semi-defeaning, but damn did they rock it. I heard something about 'the one dude taught the other dudes how to play guitar'... I'm not even sure what genre I'd call it--George Thorogood meets Buddy Holly? Guitar action was nice."
