Details:
George Begbie cannot imagine a life without music. For him itâs more than a career, something that grabs onto you and wonât let go. He studied classical piano for around a decade before finding his real passion in jazz and rock piano. As he put his classical study on hold, he pursued contemporary piano in the style of Ben Folds and The Whitlams. After being a member of numerous bands, including a saxophone, piano & vocal jazz trio he decided it was time to carve out a solo career.

George has found that the audience can relate to his music in solo form more intimately than a group performance. As there is only one man up on stage he has the space to be able to tell a story in the form of a ballad, warm hearts with an old jazz standard, or have a jive around on the keys. His âpiano manâ sound is unmistakable, with hints of not just Ben Folds, The Whitlams and The Lucksmiths, but Elton John and Billy Joel as well. He has been performing around Hobart at the Stanley Burbury Theatre, Trout Bar, Lizbon, Republic Bar, and Queens Head to name but a few, as well as the Taste of Tasmania.

Now that Georgeâs debut album, âSomething to Think Aboutâ has hit the shelves he is continuing his work as a solo performer, and planning a tour of Tasmania and the mainland later in 2007. And his aim? To bring back the beauty of a voice singing its heart out, accompanied by a grand piano. A sound second to none.
