Hinkus was found by Estonian drummer, composer and producer Tanel Ruben in 2003.
Hinkus started as a band playing instrumental funk-jazz in the beginning.The vocalist Maarja enjoyed the band one year later.
Maarja is very well known in Estonia.She sings,does TV shows and covers the front pages for the magazines.She also used to work for Universal many years.The song:It Snows was actually 18 weeks in top twenty on the popular radio program at Raadio2 in Estonia.

Hinkus â Tanel Rubenâs and Maarjaâs new jazz band, if you look at list of collaborating musicians, at first sight does not need any further explanations. They are all well-known and professional musicians, yet the combination is relatively new. Originally Rubenâs project, outstanding members have been added and Maarja has been given an important role. The majority of songs have been written by Ruben, âIt Snowsâ has Maarja as a co-author. The list of lyricists features Maarja, Kelli Uustani, Andres Agasild and Maian Kärmas. The album includes two enjoyable instrumentals from Ruben.

Hinkus also boldly uses newer sounds to give color and fashion a general sound picture richer in nuance. The most important and decisive component of this album is Rubenâs position as a producer. This can only mean good, namely â the author often knows best how the songs are to sound and so in the case the general sound of the album is integral and the quality of recording exemplary.

Once more commending Rubenâs choice of musicians, the good arrangements and solos have to be noted. In my opinion, one must emphasize how good Maarja sounds in the context of such music â you could almost claim that she sounds better and more soulful and at the same time more natural than in pop music. The reason in my opinion lies foremost in the slight variations of playing tactics, which as an end result have a very good effect.

The album sounds whole, with a mellow mood and it has a few hits that stand out â âIt Snowsâ and âIf You Want To Be My Loverâ. The important thing is that in a particular music style a new band has emerged that can offer good quality both on a record as well as on concerts.
