The Holy Moment...

What is the Holy Moment? A band, an artist, a concept-in short, an enigma. The Holy Moment is not easily defined because it consists of so many facets. Nonetheless, it is definitely an experience you must encounter first-hand.

It's rare in this day and age to find a group that defies comparison, but that's just what The Holy Moment is. Drawing from many influences, The Holy Moment is heavily conceptual, but immediately engaging and nostalgic. The mostly linear song structure makes for fluid movements, through which complex polyrhythms and odd time signatures weave. The juxtaposition of this fluidity and mathematical rigor is further mirrored in the contrast between the electronic and acoustic elements of the music.

The Holy Moment as a concept is derived from the film criticism of Francois Truffaut. Truffaut's idea was that film had this property whereby an individual viewer could completely lose themselves and be entirely open and aware of the existence and experiences of the characters on screen (and through that, be able to later reflect on their own experiences in a profoundly personal and sentimental way).
This moment of awareness and absorption was what Truffaut referred to as The Holy Moment.

Ultimately, The Holy Moment is the brainchild of Justin Cupples, who began composing material for the Holy Moment in 2000, and methodically perfected his craft until he was ready to record Nighrote at Skylight Studios. After recording said album, he enlisted the services of bass player and electronics extraordinaire Mat Schaffer. The duo quietly began playing small concerts in December of 2006 to prepare for the official release of Nightrote in 2007.
