Traditional Country.
1 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Traditional Country, COUNTRY: Country Blues
Details:
The song is based upon a true story told to songwriter Ken Humphreys when he was working as a pianist in a British working men's club. 'The lady of the evening' told Ken that when the time came for her to 'walk the last mile' she would dearly love to have a single red rose placed on her casket. Why she wanted a red rose is not absolutely clear. Perhaps a rose signified goodness or purity in her mind. We'll never know.
The fine ballad singer Stu Stevens heard the story - heard the song - and decided to record it, which was fortunate for Ken Humphreys as there is no better singer than Stu Stevens for performing a song with a message.
Ken Humphreys has led quite a remarkable life and still enjoys getting involved in as many artistic activities as possible. Ken narrowly missed out on major success when Elvis Presleys representative in London - Paul Rich accepted one of his pieces entitled "Johnny was a soldier."
The king tragically left us shortly after the submission and the song vanished into thin air.
Ken currently lives in Nottingham in England with his wife Florence. They have been married 43 years and have 3 grown up sons - he is 88 years of age.
