Formed in 2001 by lead guitarist Kwenji "JUICE" Jackson and lead vocalist Khari Gzifa, THE INSURRECTION was joined by Garry "G-$" "Whiteboy" Imes on the bass 6 months later, then big CHAD-AKA Chadeus-AKA-Dick Nutwell (local porn star), our fam DEEBO the MC and most recently, Big Ryan on drums. We are a hip-hop rooted, Black hard rock band from the Metro DC Area. Without a doubt our biggest show to date was when we opened for Wyclef Jean and Soul Asylum at 2003 Live on Penn festival in front of the Capitol building. Weve rocked all of the hot-spots around the Nations Capital.
Our message is one of pure energy, reality, and fun- all the while injecting listeners with knowledge of self and the truth about the oppressive society in which we live and our fked up gummment!! We take the listener on a sonic ride... from the hedonistic tones of NIPPLE RING to the visceral, revolution sparking ASSASSINATION. We can smooth it out with the contemplative SHAME or WATER, and bring you back to the rawness with WAKE UP DEAD, INVICTUS, and REMEMBER. Having just completed their debut project (though they have been performing for years), titled simply, WATER, THE INSURRECTION is here to openly revolt against the current stale music scene. WHERE ARE THE BLACK ROCK BANDS?? Rock, being spawned from the blues, which was spawned from old Negro spirituals, which were spawned from the pain felt by the African Slaves---is OUR MUSIC!
