Celtic vocals and instrumentals
14 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Traditional Folk, WORLD: Celtic
Details:
Jim and Holly is a father/daughter singing act that have performed at festivals, coffee houses, pubs and concert venues for ten years. Performances have been on hiatus until recenty as Holly got married and had two kids and Jim received a heart transplant less than a year ago.
Of Gaels and Saints is their first effort and includes outstanding solo vocals as well as close family harmonies.
Also included are superior instrument performances by Mark Davis (fiddle/mandolin), Dr. Ray Scott (highland bagpipes), and Mary Triola (Celtic harp).
A Latter Day Saint (LDS) theme in interfaced with these ideas, also. Come Come Ye Saints is an LDS anthem, the hymn Praise to the Man takes it's melody from Scotland the Brave, A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief was one of Joseph Smith's favorites, and Haun's Mill: October 30, 1838 relates a tragic incident in LDS history. All are in the style of Celtic music.
Many of the early LDS pioneers were from Scotland who were looking for a new life in the new world. With them they brought their culture, including their music, and thus influencing much of ours.
