I was born in Carbon County, Price, Utah. When I was growing up, my Dad performed in different establishments in town and I would listen to a lot of the country music that he sang. My Dad decided that he wanted me and my brother Ty to start singing. We started singing with my Dad when I was six years old and my brother was seven. When I was about eight years old, I remember singing at a wedding reception that my Dad was hired to perform at. My Dad taught my brother and I "Blue Suede Shoes" and we sang it at the reception.
My Dad bought a music machine and when he would practice, he would let me and my brother sing some of the songs that he had. At the age of ten I entered my first contest. I sang "Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song". I was shy but I knew that singing was something I wanted to do, and with the help and guidance from my Dad, I was going to give it a try.
I began singing at different places where I live and eventually people began recognizing who I was. All of a sudden, I started receiving calls from different organizations to perform at events such as International Days, Pioneer Days, Carbon County Fair, Emery County Fair, East Carbon Days and the Fourth of July celebration. Those times became something I looked forward to and I was asked to perform every year. I was asked to sing at wedding receptions, parties and family reunions. I was asked to sing the National Anthem for the Black Diamond Stampede Rodeo.
When I turned 21 years old, other opportunities opened up and I was asked to perform at local establishments. I sang at Rockies Lounge and also the Cowboy Club in Wellington, Utah.
As time went on, I felt that I needed more entertainment in my performances so (with some coaxing!) I began taking a dance class. I know that sounds kind of strange but with the expertise of the instructor, I was able to gain confidence and feel more at ease on stage. I continued with the class for about two years.
In 2004, I entered another contest. There were videos taken of each contestant and sent to Nashville. A few weeks after the contest, I received a telephone call from one of the promoters and he told me that I was chosen to go to Nashville to record a CD. I went to Nashville and met producer Robert Metzgar of Platinum Plus Records Capitol Management. He told me what I would have to do to record the CD and how long it may take. I did the recording at Chelsea Studios in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Last August, 2006, I entered a contest competing to be the Helper Idol. Out of 34 contestants, 10 finalists were chosen. I placed second as the Helper Idol.
My dream is to become a famous country singer. But if by some chance I don't succeed in that, I will continue performing where and when I can. Because others enjoy listening to me, it makes it all worth while.
