To most people, Iâm known only as a professional golfer. Which, is pretty cool actually, but what Iâve kept to myself for so long just didnât seem right anymore. Music has always been a major part of my life. Whether it was dancing, singing, playing the piano, there was always some music going around in my head. The funny thing is that friends and family always knew about me being a dancer, and they also new I took a couple years of piano in elementary school, but not necessarily as someone who could create my own music. Sure, I would sing at the top of my lungs which I learned very early had to be done when no one was around. But when I did sing I felt an undeniable passion. Piano became amazing when I discovered that I could make up my own songs, and so I did. When no one was home I would go to the piano and just play and sing my heart out all of the songs dancing around in my mind; but as soon as I heard a car door... silence. So the secret lived on. The temptation to just play the piano when family was around would do me in on occasion, and so I would be asked, âwhat song is that?â And my reply would be, âoh just something I made up.â
I always remember being asked, âwhat do you want to be when you grow up?â And my answer wanted to be âa pop-starâ, but I knew that Iâd get funny looks, so I would give my stock answer of something ânormalâ. I truly just wanted to be like Janet Jackson.
Then in high school I discovered golf... what does this have to do with music? Nothing. But it led me to the career path I chose. Now an LPGA Teaching Golf Professional who loves to teach others the game... always wondering what if I had just listened to my heart and let the world know that I love singing, creating songs on my piano and watching them evolve to the music that plays so loudly in my head. Golf has been such a blessing in that it brought me to my soul mate, to places I never wouldâve seen and has given me experiences that are incredible. The experience that stands out most was a tournament that I was fortunate enough to be a part of which people still talk about to this day. The 1996 US Amateur Finals when my boyfriend, Steve Scott (now husband) and Tiger Woods battled it out for 38 holes until Tiger made the winning putt on that 2nd hole of sudden death to beat Steve. Why was that a big deal? Well, Tiger made history that day when he won his 3rd consecutive Amateur title... and how was I a part of that? Well, letâs just say I owe many thanks to Johnny Miller for giving me such great compliments as I proudly carried Steveâs bag- yes, Iâm that blonde caddie that he ended up marrying a few years later! The experiences Steve and I had chasing his dream to become a member of the PGA Tour have so much to do with the inspiration of many of my songs.
Golf taught me so much about me, and with my piano Iâm able to fully express whatâs been in my soul. And itâs been an incredible journey to see how so many others are able to relate to my songs- whether they golf or not. I guess this is why when they say itâs never too late to chase your dream, itâs true. Itâs now my turn to chase mine.
